    The REI Member Dividend

The REI dividend is a unique benefit of membership in the REI co-op. It's comprised of your member refund—typically 10% back on eligible purchases—and/or your REI Visa® card rebates.

Each March, active REI members and REI Visa cardholders who earned a rebate receive a refund in the form of an annual dividend notice.

Only active members receive annual dividend notices. To maintain your active status as an REI member, you need to make net merchandise or shipping purchases of at least $10 per year, unless you joined that year. Member numbers are issued in one name and only that person receives the member refund. Your number can be used by others in your family, but it cannot be transferred to someone else.

Comments about REI Traverse PowerLock Cork Women's Trekking Poles - Pair:

Very nice hiking sticks. They collapse easily to fit a smaller pack and a smaller frame. I am 11 years old and have hiked 34 mountains in NH. These sticks are the best my Dad has bought for me yet. And...they're PURPLE!!! (Dad helped me with this review and he is DEFINITELY over 13 years old hehe)

Comments about REI Traverse PowerLock Cork Women's Trekking Poles - Pair:

I never thought I needed poles until I started hiking/snowshoeing with my baby on my back. It has made such a difference! These poles are easy to adjust, lightweight for the times you don't need them, and the cork handles don't make your hands sweaty or hot.

Comments about REI Traverse PowerLock Cork Women's Trekking Poles - Pair:

If you're looking for any old poles that will hold you upright, these technically will do that, with little ease and, and little comfort. I'm petit, so I'm can't attest to the supportable weight and durability of these poles.

When I bought these poles, I thought "poles are poles, they offer vertical support. I don't need anything fancy." Boy was I wrong. Yes, these REI Traverse are indeed poles, and they offer vertical support. But what I don't like about these poles is two features that lead to enough discomfort that it's not worth bringing them on trips anymore.

              1. It's very difficult to pull the poles out to extend. And I'm not talking about trying to extend them fully, I'm talking about the first few inches of extension to adjust them to the desirable height. I'd rather not have to struggle with yanking out my poles when my hands are half frozen (I hike year-round).

              2. The shape of the handgrip isn't very well thought out. I hold my poles two ways-- the standard way (holding the vertical stem of the grip) or holding the top nob by setting my palm on the top of the poles when going down hill to maximize my ability to pivot the poles and to lengthen my reach. The shape of the top nob is the source of my concern. Since the top is flat, I assume the design was intended for that type of grip. However, you can only place your palm on the flat part, and not be able to wrap your fingers around to get a good grasp of the poles. So I'm dropping my poles left and right all the way down the mountain. If you don't hold your poles from the top, then this wouldn't be a problem for you.

I would buy these poles if they made the top handgrip shaped more like Leki's, and if they made the pole adjustments smoother. The locks themselves work fine.
