Vasque Breeze 2.0 Hiking Boots - Women's is rated 3.25 out of 5 by 4.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from these hiking boots deserve a good review As hiking boots go, these are relatively lightweight, flexible, easy to break in, easy to walk in, and generally less formidable than the other hiking boots made by Vasque. I know, because I bought four different styles of Vasque hiking boots recently (within the past two or three months) and of the four different styles, these are by far the lightest and most flexible. I bought a pair of Vasque Talus, Wasatch, and Bitterroot hiking boots in size 9, and the Breeze 2.0 boots in size 9.5. It seems to me that the Breeze 2.0 boots are sized a bit smaller than the others. The reviewer who says the Vasque Breeze 2.0 hiking boots are terribly heavy and clunky is not aware of how truly heavy and stiff really serious hiking boots are! I've found the Vasque Breeze 2.0 hiking boots to be the easiest pair of the four to break in, and the easiest to walk in, generally. The Talus hiking boots are good because they don't restrict my ankles' movement as much as hiking boots tend to do, because they're designed lower around the ankles than the other styles, but the Breeze boots, though designed to be "over the ankle" are also designed to be more "agile" (as Vasque describes them) than other hiking boots, which I appreciate tremendously! The Wasatch and Bitterroot boots are heavier, stiffer, and more challenging to walk in. Because the Wasatch and Bitterroot boots significantly restrict the natural movement of my ankles, I find it tiring to walk or hike in them. I've taken several fairly long, strenuous hikes in my Vasque Breeze 2.0 hiking boots, and I've liked them more and more each time I've worn them. They offer excellent traction on steep, rough, and sometimes slippery trails, and they feel supportive without being too heavy, stiff, or clunky. As with all hiking boots, I wear them with liner socks under light-hiking wool socks. These hiking boots are both very supportive and relatively flexible. If you're buying these online, be aware that they're sized a bit small, so I'd suggest ordering a half size larger than your normal shoe size.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Lightweight Hiking Boots I day hike over 800 miles a year on rough mostly steep terrain and these boots took me on most of those miles, including backpacking for several days. They are comfortable yet sturdy, have good traction for rocky terrain, and have a wide enough toe box to prevent pinching of the toes. I used to wear heavier boots until my physical therapist advised that in order to protect the knees, one should not use weights below the knees - including heavy boots. So these boots fit the bill. After a few hikes in the beginning I change the manufacturer's insole to a sturdier one for added arch support. I literally wore my first pair out and was elated when I could still find these on the market. I have another pair which have the Gortex lining, for use in inclement weather (which is nearly never where I live). I highly recommend these boots if you are looking for a sturdy light hiker with ample toe room.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from "Tech improvements" Big disappointment I purchased these shoes in March 2007 and LOVED them!! I was so excited to finally get new boots this year, only to be very disappointed. Having had such great luck with these before and reading on the Vasque website that they had upgraded the model significantly, I purchased another pair in size 9 - the same size as my previous pair. After several attempts with these boots both inside to break them in then taking them on the trail, I returned them they were so uncomfortable. At the suggestion of the sales rep, I purchased a pair in size 9.5. Wore them inside and they felt too big, wore them on the trail and had the worst shoe hiking experience ever (had I not worn socks plus liners i'm sure I would have had blisters). Vasque really let me down with their "technology improvements" and poor sizing on these previous awesome shoes.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Would go for something lighter next time The sales person I was dealing with convinced me that these would be the right shoe for a John Muir Trail thru-hike and that a lighter day hiking shoe would never work. I bought them and they served me well on the trip. However, I would have been much better off with a lighter hiking shoe or even a sneaker. You get to see out west that very few people follow the traditional quota of heavy and clunky boots. I saw more backpackers in Vibram 5 finger shoes that these types of boots, and most were wearing sneakers of trail runners. These shoes really aren't necessary for anything other than intense off-trail travel or loads of 50+ pounds. I was carrying only 30 pounds on well-maintained trails. They are hard to break in and really wear down your feet after a long day of hiking. So overall, I wouldn't really recommend these to the average backpacker, especially not on the Appalachian Trail, JMT, PCT, or any other well established and maintained trail.
