Surly Cross Check Bike - 2013is rated5.0out of5by2.
Rated5out of5bySpeedydogfromComfortable , Versatile and FunThis bike is fun and surprisingly light. The chrome-moly steel frame provides a smooth ride. I did not think I would like the bar-end shifters. Now I think bar-end shifters are one of the bike's best features. Shifting is crisp and precise. The gearing is perfect for hills.
The cantilever brakes are not as powerful as disc brakes. However, the brakes work well and stop the bike just fine.
I love the old-school look. The WTB SST saddle is comfortable. The riding position is great. Once I get on this bike, I never want to get off!

Rated5out of5bySACommuterfromPerfect Commuter: Speed & UtilityI've commuted to work for about 7 years on a variety of touring and racing bikes and this is by far the best commuter I've ever owned. From my experience, a dedicated touring bike is too sluggish for commuting and a racing bike doesn't handle foul weather very well. The Cross Check combines utility (e.g., fenders, eyelets for racks, reliable components, etc) with speed. Whatever the weather, the Cross Check provides a fun and fast ride to and from work (currently 10 miles each way for me). The Cross Check won't win any weekend races nor will it take you on a self-supported tour across the country. It does everything in between these two extremes very well. I can't say enough good things about this bike. Awesomeness.
