Comments about Therm-a-Rest LuxuryLite Mesh Cot:

Reading other reviews I was glad I was able to locate the cot at another REI. It was shipped to me within days. I assembled the cot, sat on it and one of the legs snapped(broke). I weigh 215lbs and the weight limit on the mesh cot is advertised at 350lbs. I don't know if this was just a fluke or if this happens often.

Comments about Therm-a-Rest LuxuryLite Mesh Cot:

I took this cot on a four night hiking trip in the Grand Canyon. Weight and size are similar to a single person tent, so I thought I would give it a shot since I wanted to sleep in the open. Overall, the design is pretty good. Once set up it is comfortable and sturdy. I didn't pound on it, but also didn't treat it like an egg. It held up on uneven surfaces and loads (me). There are some down-sides however. The big thing is this product leaves you feeling the cool air through the bottom of the fabric. It's very airy and I felt it through my bag big time when it dipped below 30, but also when it slid below 50. Great for HOT weather, but even a mild chill made for an uncomfortably cool feel. Other than that I was satisfied with how it performed.

My only other points are with regard to the design. First, the support poles and/or sleeves for them need tweaking to make them play together better. The poles hang up on the cut-outs and also do not come out of the sleeve very easily. The other thing is that I wouldn't advise using the product in a tent. I did on one windy night and the legs wore through the tent floor in spots. Finally, I would say it is a bit over priced. Although it held up well on this trip, I can already see some potential issues that will shorten it's life compared to good alternatives.

Comments about Therm-a-Rest LuxuryLite Mesh Cot:

We researched cots for a long time, and eventually decided to shell out the big bucks for this one because it met all of our requirements. We were so excited to receive it!

Unfortunately, the first snag was trying to set it up... I couldn't believe how difficult it was to get the legs attached to the beams that support the cot fabric. My husband came over to help and he gave up! I finally got four of the legs on (though I thought I might have pulled a muscle in my back...) and tried out the cot. It was fine, seemed as comfortable as our 'roll-a-time camp cots' but certainly not more so.

The real deciding factor was when I tried to take the thing apart to store. Neither of us could get the legs out. We had to work together (and my husband is a strong guy!) and even then my hands were all red and marked up from the effort. Definitely not conducive to a relaxing camping trip!

So, very sadly, we returned it. We picked up another roll-a-time cot, and it is sooo much easier to set up that I think our son will be able to do it (this is his cot, so that is a big plus!) and it is just as comfortable. I'm glad we saved a bundle too.

In conclusion I would only suggest this cot if you must have the small size & weight, and are extremely strong and are not prone to pulling muscles when applying pressure while bending.

Thank you to REI for accepting the return and allowing us to use our 20% member coupon on the roll-a-time cot instead!

Likely to return this unless anyone has advice on how to stop some of the lower cross poles popping out of the holes. Doesn't happen until the cot bears weight.

Comments about Therm-a-Rest LuxuryLite Mesh Cot:

What is my "Gear Style?" A mixture of minimalist and comfort driven. I like my comfort so I buy light weight items. Thus, when I go camping I am very well setup.

Within the last year, Therm-a-Rest purchased the patent for this cot. Prior to Therm-a-Rest's purchase, I had used two (2) other versions of the cot (maybe not so much versions but alternative concepts put out by the original patent holder). One version involved lower quality and less lightweight materials (the original owner explained he was trying to figure out a way to lower the sale price-the Boy Scouts I work with still use them on all their campouts), and another cot that is similar in concept but substantially different in construction. I had no problem with either version. About six (6) months ago, I purchased the newly branded Therm-a-Rest version.

All the cots are good. I am not going to belabor talking about them in any great detail.

I am going to point out one (1) negative, and it is not so much a negative as it is something you should already realize and if you do not, I want to point it out. This cot sits only 3 inches off the ground. If you are a side sleeper, you will bottom out because you will be putting a large amount of weight on your shoulder or hip. Sleep on your back, and you will have no problems. The bottoming out is not a defect, it is a matter of construction. If the maker was not going for so light weight and compact, the legs could be another 1 inch in diameter and then you would not bottom out while laying no your side. If you buy this cot, it is because you are a serious camper and do not want to sleep on the ground anymore (or you spend time in airports and want a comfortable place to sleep—yes I have done this).

Comments about Therm-a-Rest LuxuryLite Mesh Cot:

Having slept on this cot enough now to provide an informed opinion, here it is. Ah......Wonderful!!!
I placed my old Therma-Rest large pad on top for warmth and slept better than at home. I particualy like the "cradling effect" that the sides provide. No more waking up to find you've slid off the pad onto the hard ground.
In all honesty I suspect that most quality cots would be much the same, but where this cot stands out is that it packs down to such a small package. It will always have a place in my canoe.
Being well rested allows you the full pleasure from your outing and you avoid unsafe decisions that come from fatigue.

Comments about Therm-a-Rest LuxuryLite Mesh Cot:

I'm guessing the low number of reviews is due to price. In my case, I bought his item while on sale at REI so think I'm fortunate enough to have purchased this cot while I had the chance. Even then it wasn't cheap but definitely worth it.

I'm a 40-something male 5'8" male weighing about 165lbs. I injured my lower back in my late 20's. As long as I treat it with respect I don't have problems. I sleep on a firm mattress as soft mattresses can make my back feel like the day I originally injured it. I'm a side sleeper and I get cold easily. Enough about me...on to the review.

I'm not going to go into the specs...that you can find on the web page. I used to sleep on a thermarest 1.5 inch sleeping pad that tapers towards the feet. Being a side sleeper I could never get comfortable because of the pressure points I'd feel on my shoulders and hips when inflated to my desired firmness. Also, the darn thing would constantly move on me and typically by morning, I'd find my self half off the pad or completely off it. If I didn't find myself half off the pad it was because I'd wake up in the middle of the night adjusting the darn thing so I'd remain on it to remain comfortable through the night. In my youth, no problem. Today, I'm done with it. I need my sleep to enjoy the days.

I'd always had my eye on the Luxury lite cot because of weight and my positive experience of sleeping on cots in the past. The trouble? Price and the small maker. Recently, it appears Thermarest starting manufacturing the SAME product. It seems they struck a relationship with the original manufacturer and thank goodness they did because my back and sleepless nights were in desperate straights. I purchased it and haven't looked back.

It's easy to setup, configurable to set the amount of firmness you desire, and can even be reduced in weight depending upon how many struts you want to bring with you. The 6 included struts make it firm. Reduce it by one and the product weighs less and it's a hair softer. On cold nights I still lay the old thermarest pad on for insulation. On warm nights, there's no need for a pad and the perforated material allows for airflow to keep you cooler. Regardless I now sleep through the night, on my side, with the 4+ inches of distance between myself and the ground. My last trip, in 34 degree weather, I found myself completely comfortable. I easily tossed/turned as I did in my own bed at home. The bed cradles you to keep you from falling over the sides and the area underneath is now storage because of the cot's heighth. Finally, yes, it is pricy, but for 3.5.bs (or less), getting you off the ground completely, and the cradling affect, it's totally worth it. I plan to go backpacking with it next year and though there's a weight penalty, it's worth it if I manage to get a good night's sleep.

A great cot for any type of sleeping. The first set up is hard and then it's a breeze once you've done it. Make sure to watch the youtube video where they assemble it. It'll give you a better grip on how to go about it.

In terms of comfort-ability and mobility I can't see any product that would beat this. It's light and small but comfortable and long. My back actually gets relieved when I lay in it and I use it as my everyday bed with no problems. I've even had a girl sleep on it with me and we slept great!

Try it out if you want a "buy it for life" item.
