Comments about Oboz Wind River II BDry Hiking Boots - Women's:
This boot goes up my ankle higher than any other boot I own so the break-in has been a bit more difficult for me. I endured bruising on my lower shins for the first several outings in these boots. However, normally my feet blister easily, especially my heels, and I am happy to say that these boots haven't given me a single blister! I am breaking these in before a nine day 130 mile hike through Ireland's County Kerry and I have high hopes that these will be the perfect foot ware for the trek.
My shoe size varies from 8-9, I went for size 9, thinking I could wear a normal hiking sock and have a little bit of wiggle room and could still wear a thicker sock in winter, if need be. I have been very pleased with the sizing thus far.
This is an incredibly waterproof boot! On my first outing in them we went nine miles on a rainy day and crossed many streams. I submerged both feet, multiple times, and once back at the car found that my feet were mostly dry!
I haven't done a winter hike in these boots but did bring them along on a recent trip to MN, where a mid-April snowstorm made for a cold visit. I wore them to an outdoor baseball game with temps in the high 20s with a normal pair of hiking socks and was surprised at how warm my feet stayed. The others I went to the game with complained readily about their cold toes, whereas I was comfortable!
I was surprised at how lightweight these boots feel when on my feet and how much longer my legs last when carrying a load of about 20lbs. Overall I am very satisfied with my new boots thus far!
