Amazing tent. Easy to set up. Enough room for two people and gear inside. Minimalist Extreme Hiker perfect. I use as a 1 Man Tent! Is amazing and lightweight in the most extreme weather long range hikes for 1 person is a Dream

Comments about REI Half Dome 2 Tent:
I just came back from a backpacking trip in Norway. It is spring now but we experienced temperatures from 0 to 10C and the tent work well. It was also very rainy and windy, but the tent stood its ground and provide a nice shelter.
Around freezing temperatures, it is necessary to have a nice sleeping bag and pad to avoid a cold night.

Comments about REI Half Dome 2 Tent:
I cant say enough about this tent. All of the other high quality tents I looked at were above my budget and I think the only real advantage they held was their weight. This tent can set up in under 5 minutes with one person. Its a snap to put up and take down. On a recent trip to Zion we were in 25 degrees weather with 40 mph winds and it hardly moved. I am sold! I could not be happier with this purchase.

Comments about REI Half Dome 2 Tent:
This is a great tent. I purchased the tent for Boy Scout campouts. First campout had heavy rain and strong winds and snow the next day. Tent kept me dry and held up to the wind. It is comfortable and has lots of space. Like the 2 doors and 2 vestibules to be able to put gear and keep it dry.

Comments about REI Half Dome 2 Tent:
Used this for 5 nights on the Appalachian Trail. Had two nights of rain/thunderstorms/hail and one night of snow. Was dry inside every night. Super easy to set up. Lots of room inside for me (6'2") and all my gear at night.

Comments about REI Half Dome 2 Tent:
This tent stands up to it all. It withstood 60 mph gusts and over a foot of snowfall without any problems. Setting it up in the wind was a little difficult, but once it was up, and staked and guyed out, we didn't have any issues. It shed the snow easily without any condensation problems and we stayed cozy all night.
The tent is heavier than some more expensive ones out there (and is certainly heavier than pitching a tarp), but for the price is perfect. My favorite part is the two doors so that I can get out without bothering my wife. There is also plenty of room for two people and your gear stows well under the fly (it is a little cramped with two people and two full grown dogs, but doable).
Overall this is the best tent I have had over the years.

Comments about REI Half Dome 2 Tent:
I was persuaded to go with this from the high marks it got from Outside Magazine. I've been on exactly 4 bike overnights with it and can't complain about anything yet. It really hasn't been tested yet in sloppy weather and I'm curious to see how it holds up.
But, I can comment that the setup is quick and easy. I watched the video on the REI website and that made things a whole lot easier the first time out.
I can also say that this tent with the rainfly on does a good job holding in the heat. I did an overnight in November where the temps dipped to 20 deg. F. When I woke up in the morning, I was pretty warm until I opened the fly and stepped outside. There was a discernible temp difference.
Two design features that stand out for me:
1. The little pockets to tuck the zippers away in to eliminate any access points for mosquitos to breech the tent walls.
2. The two vestibules keep the overflow gear close by and dry.
Buy the footprint. It just makes sense to protect the tent floor.
I bought this just for myself and find it nice and roomy for me and all my gear. It would be tight with two people, but not impossible. The two doors would help here for sure.
All in all, I like the Half Dome so far and the fact that it's a small package and easy to tote around with the rest of my bike touring gear is just bonus time.
You won't find a better tent at this price.

Comments about REI Half Dome 2 Tent:
Tried out my new tent at Camp Doris in the Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge. Easy setup, 5 minutes max including rain fly. This is my first tent so it's easy for a novice.
It's made for two people and so I had lots of room for my big sleeping bad and the rest of my stuff plus there are nifty little pockets to tuck things into.
Comes woth everything you need including guy lines if you're going to be in wind.

Comments about REI Half Dome 2 Tent:
I love this tent. I have an older version of it, and it has stood up to heavy rain and wind numerous times. It has vents at the top so condensation doesn't build up. The clips keep the tent off of the poles, and I highly recommend getting the footprint as well. It is a bit heavier than some 2 man tents, but the head room and space is certainly worth the extra weight. It also has multiple pockets inside, two vestibules, and two doors.

Comments about REI Half Dome 2 Tent:
this tent is amazing mine is from 4 years ago give or take. me and 3 friends have this same tent. two of us have the newer one almost identical to the new one here only thing i notice different is color, then one friend has his that is different. his has different poles and rain fly but very similar his is probably 6 years old or so. we put these tents through their paces. one trip we stayed in the tend for 6 weeks strait and loved every minute of it. then had a few week trips here and there. our next trip will be 2 weeks and i can not wait. one recomendation is leave the rain fly off when ever possiable the mesh allows for an amazing view while laying in the tent. when the fly is on make sure to open the vents to keep the tent vented and dry. the doors open good ofer optional places to open but till you get use to the zippers you tend to only open to vent and not to get out.the rain fly allows storage outside the tent which is nice when you have 2 and one medium sized dog in the tent and still have great room in the tent with the 3 of you. when buying my camping gear or anything for that matter i try to be different and see whats out there. well i checked and this tent compares to tents twice and 3 times the cost i even think it kicks their butt in design. one thing is the tent may be a little heavier than higher priced ones but not enough to pass. save your money buy with reward points and trust me you will love it. my friend has probably half a year or even more combined living in his and cant say enough great things about his tent.
