Combining goose down, synthetic insulation and waterproof fabric in key areas, the REI Flash sleeping bag balances lightweight warmth with moisture management for your 3-season backpacking comfort.

    • 800-fill goose down on top of bag provides maximum warmth and compressibility; bag is rated to 32°F
    • Soft PrimaLoft® Sport synthetic insulation on the bottom of the bag provides a stable layer that continues to warm even if wet and dries quickly
    • Waterproof, breathable shell fabric on hood, side panels and footbox increases moisture resistance in areas that often come in contact with tent side walls
    • Ripstop nylon shell fabric on the rest of the bag is treated with a Durable Water Repellent finish to repel moisture and stains
    • Ultralight, mini-ripstop polyester lining is soft and comfortable against your skin
    • Baffles wrap around perimeter of sleeping bag to maximize warmth from head to foot; baffles keep the down from shifting, preventing cold spots
    • Performance fit saves weight by reducing girth at shoulders, hips and lower legs; trapezoidal footbox accommodates a natural sleeping position
    • Multichambered contoured hood, insulated full-face muffler, full-length zipper draft tube and ground-level seams all work to keep heat in and cold out
    • Differentiated drawcords (1 round, 1 flat) let you adjust hood and neck easily in the dark
    • Zipper is backed by wide, antisnag binding tape; the REI Flash sleeping bag can be zipped to any other REI backpacking bag (women's bags zip on the right, men's on the left)
    • European Norm (EN) rating for men is 32°F and 41°F for women; EN is an independent third-party temperature rating, allowing accurate comparisons across brands
    • Includes stuff sack and storage bag

Comments about REI Flash Sleeping Bag:

ok so i purchased this bag without looking at the temp rating, i just wanted a 24oz'ish bag to go with my lightweight setup, i figured if it got cold ill just put all my clothes on and climb inside, this did not work well at or below 45 degrees, luckily at the first shelter in the smokies i found a kelty polyester bag liner that i liberated from the camp site, this saved me but added weight, close to another pound it feels like. but at the shelter just south of clingmans dome, after hiking all day in 60 mph winds at about 40 degrees i prepared for the freeze to come, i put all my clothes on (silkys one pair pants, one short sleeve, one long sleeve shirt, and my windbreaker, inserted the liner in the bag and climbed inside with my water filter, boots all my wet socks and slept the night away, i was warm all night and astonished to learn that it had gotten down to 15 degrees that night, i am impressed with this bag and it works well with the system i have developed, but i fear, if not for the liner and all my clothes i would not have had such a good time, love this bag, i cowboy camp often, the morning dew dries out of it quickly, and i dry my wet clothes out in it while i sleep, good product for a well prepared hiker

Comments about REI Flash Sleeping Bag:

My wife and I do a lot of car camping but I have recently found myself interested in doing some light back-country camping as well using a hammock sleeping system. So I wanted a sleeping bag that I could use in both situations.

I camp mostly in North GA during the spring, summer and fall. Temps vary in range from mid 30's to high 60's at night. This bag is rated at 32 degrees F for men.

I just tested this bag last weekend in a ENO hammock with a thermarest 3/4 pad under the bag. The coldest night dropped into the high 30's and I was cold enough to stir from sleep several times, even wearing light thermal under-clothes under my full camping clothes (no cotton). I'm also 6 ft 250 lb. so I am very warm generally. Sleeping in a hammock is generally colder so if you you are using this type of sleep system consider 40 degrees the lowest temp for comfort. In a tent or on a pad on the ground 32 degrees is probably accurate.

This bag compresses easily into my Sea to Summit bag and being down/synthetic it's very comfortable. It's also fairly light weight at 1 lb. 11 ounces but not ultra-light.

I'm also pretty broad shouldered and the bag was snug but I could still move my arms and not feel like I was in a straitjacket.

My previous sleeping bag was an amazon $35 special, the zipper broke after 2 trips. So I wanted to upgrade to a quality sleeping bag.

The Flash sleeping bag's quality of construction is consistent with the high quality that I have come to appreciate from REI.

Time will tell on durability but I don't think I will have any problems.

All in all I am very pleased with my purchase.

Comments about REI Flash Sleeping Bag:

The 34 F comfort rating is quite inaccurate. I was down in Zion National Park Utah in mid March 2013. I took this sleeping bag thinking it will be a comfortable spring bag but the temperatures were in the 30s and I was freezing for the two nights inspite of a warm comfortable thermarest sleeping pad in a tent. The many warm layers and hot water bottles inside the sleeping bag did not help. This is a very expensive for its class not so warm sleeping bag. The person next to me was using a Marmot with the same temperature rating and snored away to glory :(

I've taken this bag on two backpacking trips and it has worked perfectly thusfar. I'm very happy with how small (and light) it packs and have had no problem staying warm in temperatures slightly above freezing. Have not owned long enough to comment on durability.
