Comments about Patagonia R2 Fleece Jacket - Men's - 2012 Closeout:
Living in Alaska, I dabble in mountaineering at a recreational level and I tend towards being an equipment geek. This jacket is recommended by serious mountaineers, so I couldn't pass it up when it was on serious discount/clearance. The jacket is just as advertised, a lightweight mountaineering fleece. It is a very soft fabric, warm, and extremely light compared to standard fair fleece. It seems like it would dry quickly, but I haven't tested this out.
The only potential con and reason for 4 stars is the yellow fabric leaves a noticeable residue of fibers and fuzz on my black bibs/shell after a day on skis. This indicates to me the jacket's fleece is a bit delicate and its insulation may wear down with a lot of use. I consider this jacket more specialized equipment to be used when lightness is a high priority. I would not recommend this jacket for casual use as the question for me remains, if I wear this will it wear out before go on that trip? Perhaps...
