If you are in between sizes go up. Ordered large thinking they would fit because I wear a size 38, but had to go up to an X-large. REI has an awesome service department and it was no problem. Great store service on this product at the time.

Purchased these pants just before a recent backpacking trip to Isle Royale National Park. The 4-way stretch fabric proved itself during 4 straight days of cold wind and rain on exposed rocky ridgeline stretches. Trail crews had not been to the island yet so there were many down trees in the trail requiring countless detours off trail in thorny brush. Legs stayed free of scrapes and scratches. Plenty of mud from the trail stayed out of my boots as well.

Waistband soft and comfortable even under a full pack. Thigh pockets were a bit small, but very practical. The no-sit zip off legs proved to work well and the zippers never jammed. They acted as a pair of gaiters that I could take off before getting into the tent to keep the water and mud to a minimum in the tent. On a warmer (and dry) day, the pants breathed well even without zipping the legs off allowing me to keep hiking comfortably.

These have now become my go-to hiking pants.

Bought these for backpacking. On the plus side, it's really nice to be able to remove the legs without removing my boots; the side zippers are great. But I ended up selling them. The zippers themselves are very small and jammed a lot. I found the fit very tight and the breathability poor. And despite the light zippers, the pants overall are heavier than other brands. They're more expensive too. This just was not a good purchase.

Great pant, breathable yet surprisingly water-resistant and flexible. After a 9 mile hike into the Hoh rainforest in the Olympic Mtns, WA during a rather stormy, rainy day they were dry everywhere except major rub points with hands/jacket and boots. Better than expected, looking forward to trying in some heat and humidity to test the full capabilities! Flexible in the waist, crotch and knee areas with plenty of flex and room to be comfortable while scrambling a 1,000 foot moss covered hill in the rain!
