The Light & Motion Taz 1200 front bike light offers a compact, integrated design with bright light output, making it a versatile option for the trail, the road, or both.

    • Cruise mode sequentially cycles through high (1200 lumens), medium (600 lumens), low (300 lumens), pulse and flash (both 300 lumens) light settings
    • Race mode conserves battery power by skipping medium and flash modes, offering just the medium setting for climbing and the high setting is just a click away for descents
    • Integrated lithium ion battery offers a 1.5 hr. run time on its highest output setting; drop to lower power settings to extend run time
    • Rechargeable via micro USB; depending on your USB charging rate, the Taz 1200 will fully charge in 4, 8, or 14 hrs. (2A, 1A, 0.5A respectively)
    • The Light & Motion Taz 1200 bike light is designed to be mounted on your handlebar (fits most handlebars)

Comments about Light & Motion Taz 1200 Front Bike Light:

"Nit-picking is the pastime of pointing out minor flaws or mistakes."

Not balanced: the Taz tilts down on hard bumps if mounted on top of handlebar; and tilts up on hard bumps if mounted underneath handlebar.

Slow charging: it takes all 14 hours (from complete discharge to fully charged), using a feeble 0.5 amp cellphone charger.

The Power/Indicator button and the Side Lights button are located too close together.

The Power/Indicator button is not readily visible when the Taz is mounted underneath the handlebar.

The USB charging port is crowded by the mounting strap buckle.

The USB charging port cap is difficult to pry open.

    Bright with flaws

    Pros

    • Bright

    Cons

    • Mount Is Integrated

    Best Uses

    • Commuting

Comments about Light & Motion Taz 1200 Front Bike Light:

The light is very bright and unlike Gear Guy, I had no problem charging with different amperage micro usb adapters, just takes longer with less amperage. The unfortunate part of this light is the mount is integrated into the body of the light. And if you try to rotate the light on you handle bars you can easily snap the light off the mount. It also means fully removing the light when parking you bike in a public place and/or to charge it.

    Service and delivery comments:

The service I've received from REI has been substandard. When I first brought the broken light in the gentleman behind the counter said to call on 10/22/2012 because the store would have more in stock that day, since I wanted to exchange the light. I called that day only to be told, no delivers are ever received on a Monday, and what's more I would probably never get the light if I waited for it to show up at the store. I was then told to backorder the light online and then exchange it. I have placed a backorder that said it would arrive last Friday 10/26/2012 and it hasn't.

Produces a whole lot of bright light

Comments about Light & Motion Taz 1200 Front Bike Light:

The Taz 1200 mounts nicely on my handlebars and produces 1200 lumens (a lot) of bright white light. The whole package is smaller, lighter, and far more powerful than any other light I've used.

This is what I consider to be my 3rd generation of lighting system in the past 15 years. My first, in the late 90s, was a NiteRider 15W Halogen with a battery the size of a water bottle weighing several pounds with 1 hour run time. My 2nd, only 2 years ago, was a NiteRider 350 lumens LED with a separate battery that strapped to my stem.

My road cycling lighting system is the Light and Motion Taz 1200 and Urban 400 (backup) and that produce a whopping combined 1600 lumens of bright white light. To put this in perspective, 1600 lumens is as much light as my cars low beams. The total package weighs ¾ pound with a 1.5 hour run time on high output, and up to 6 hours on low.

My only note of caution is the Taz 1200 requires a Micro USB adaptor (charger) that outputs 2.0 Amps in order to charge sufficiently. The Taz 1200 Quick Start Guide and product website indicate that 0.5 to 1 Amp adaptors will charge the light, but for whatever reason didn't work with my light. The Light and Motion Support Center helped noting the Taz 1200 requires an output of 2.0A in order to charge sufficiently. The light doesn't come with a 2.0A adaptor requiring a separate purchase. Everything has worked terrific since.

It's amazing how far LED lighting has come in the past few years. The Taz 1200 is the next step in LED lighting.
