Comments about Leatherman OHT Multitool:
The tool options and qaulity are good. The outer finish/paint scratches and wears off quickly. The locking mechanism for the pliers comes undone easily and often at inconvenient times. The tool itself is a bit bulky and heavy.

Comments about Leatherman OHT Multitool:
The tool itself is great; the only issue I have is that the sheath, when worn on a belt, is so soft and floppy that it makes the tool very difficult to deploy. A semi-rigid sheath or a rigid plate in the back of the sheath would make the tool easier to get in and out when in use.

Comments about Leatherman OHT Multitool:
I have been a Leatherman Tool Group advocate for over thirty years. In that time I have purchased twenty plus tools for gifts, and for myself. Never have I been unsatisfied with a product. My daily lifesaver is Charge ti, with an original Wave for backup. I love the concept of the OHT, however for me it will see action in the field. Quality in fit and finnish is poor. Unlike any other Leatherman product I have the honor of owning. Mechanically this tool is under par. I will be returning this tool for refund. Sadly I hope this is not an indicator of things to come for Leatherman. If so I will be buying enough old stock to last me my lifetime. Peace and Light

Comments about Leatherman OHT Multitool:
I'm a firefighter/EMT and USAR tech. I was thinking about buying the Benchmade Triage or the CRKT MAK-1 combo to carry on duty, but when I saw this at an REI store I jumped on it. The idea of having a cutting hook and one-handed pliers in a tool marketed as very heavy duty seemed like the best combo.
I have owned Leatherman tools since 1992, and have had nothing but good experiences with their design and construction. So I couldn't believe at how utterly disappointed I was after unpacking the OHT. I believe that there is a need for a one-handed tool. I also feel that this is so utterly poorly designed and constructed, they need to start from scratch with a different design team. Where is the quality of my Wave?????!!
1 - This is designed to be used by military/first responders. So why are the blades the smallest and most delicate I've seen in any Leatherman? I've owned Swiss Army knives with larger and stronger blades. The saw is also tiny. What did they have in mind this saw being used to cut, a #2 pencil?
2 - It is great that this is molle compatible, but just about every knife case I know that comes with molle support also can be mounted in some way on a belt. Not this one. Also, the molle attachment is a very soft nylon rather than something more rigid. They should look to the Benchmade Adamas as a model. The quality of the case is also far beneath the one that ships with the Wave.
3 - The cutting hook is not easy to sharpen with a typical stone. If any knife blade needs to be able to cut fast when lives depend on it, it is this. Go figure that I had to hack at a single strand of 550 para cord, which it was barely able to cut. This should be much sharper out of the box.
4 - The lockout for the pliers is a little rotating nub on the side of the handle. It's too easy to accidentally rotate it when using the screwdriver or something, and it's so delicate I could see it breaking easily as well.
5 - I've saved the worst for last. Every Leatherman I've owned is built rock solid. The rivets and pivot points are strong and tight. Not here. The rivets that hold the two halves together, and upon which all of the force is applied when squeezing the pliers are so loose the two halves *rattle*. They are also flimsy, and I could see them breaking under heavy use.
The only thing beefy about this is the picture on the packaging.
The OHT is a complete let-down by a company that I only had the highest regard for previously. They have lots of great products, but not this one. DO NOT BUY THE OHT.
I don't think the OHT can be saved with incremental changes. I think it is so fundamentally flawed that nothing other than starting from scratch will result in a good product. That being said, if they ever built a one-handed tool that lived up to their pedigree, I would definitely buy it.
