    Comments about Life Gear Waterproof Glow Stick:

    They went to quite a bit of trouble making the housing and watertight seal relatively high quality but completely failed with some basic aspects. The power/function button protrudes past any of the housing and turns on with an easy push, so you can pretty much expect that this has turned on and run the batteries down before you get a chance to use it. I don't know if it was part of the design, but we removed the batteries completely (including the spare set that came with it) and used scotch tape to hold them together then unscrewed the unit and put the batteries inside the 'glowsitck' part of the tube. There aren't any instructions so we like to think we are geniuses and figured this out on our own. The unit says it includes a whistle but it is completely ineffective. As soon as the sales label is removed from the tube the whistle cap falls off leaving the pointy end exposed. This end is far more effective as a pointy end than it ever was as a whistle and becomes useful to stick in the ground and possibly casual self-defense. Fortunately, a knife makes quick work of removing this end. Finally, don't even start to think that the 'free batteries for life just pay S&H' gimmick is in your best interest.
