Comments about Black Diamond Magnetron RockLock Locking Carabiner:
Took me one day to get the feel. Now I don't use anything else, espeacially for belaying. Device is easy and fast to use, locks and unlocks easily with minimal effort.

Comments about Black Diamond Magnetron RockLock Locking Carabiner:
I got this magnetic carabiner because it was just so fascinating. It locks every time and now I want to use nothing else. The lock is amazing and is so simple. When it comes to teaching others it makes it simple where you don't have to check all the time to make sure it is locked. The lock is still very strong and I actually feel safer using it then a screw gate locking device. I actually plan on buying a few more of these because it is an amazing piece of technology. If you haven't bought one yet, you need to jump on this great device.

Comments about Black Diamond Magnetron RockLock Locking Carabiner:
I initially bought one of these as a gag for a fellow climber (one that has climbed for 9+ years). At first glance it is a pricey piece of gear that doesn't really improve upon the original screwgate. However, we had a lot of fun using it (we sound like children). But, just pinch and go. Simple, clever and easy to use. So, while I say this is a completely unnecessary purchase, I also say that it is a unique piece of equipment and if you have the extra few dollars to spare, I definitely recommend it.

Comments about Black Diamond Magnetron RockLock Locking Carabiner:
I've been using the Magnetron for a few weeks and have been very pleased. With any new type of technology I'm always a little skeptical of how it will perform in the long-run, and thus far have had no signs that would indicate the locking mechanism could fail.
The only thing that makes me weary is that you can't tell just by taking a quick look at the carabiner if it is locked. You can only make that assumption without physically testing it, though, it has never failed to lock. In contrast, other auto-lockers and twist locks show a red band around the device when unlocked. Because of this, I am hesitate to give this carabiner to a beginner...then again it is pretty fool proof.

I like to use it in the gym for my belay biner & for setting rappell or top rope anchors.

It's functional, it might be a little bit less of a pain than a screwgate or an autolocker, but really it's just a cool toy.

Comments about Black Diamond Magnetron RockLock Locking Carabiner:
The coolness: It can be unlocked in a sigle motion if your hand is large enough. (I have medium sized hands, and I can open it without a problem.) It makes rappelling on a multipich a breeze. And switching belayers has nevere been faster. The greatest concern I think someone would have, is that the carabiner locks in place through the use of magnets. I can assure you that as soon as you use it, you feel how strong and secure the magnets are. The carabiner needs three different actions in a single motion to fully unlock, so the chances of it unlocking on it's own are slim to none.
The Cons: Price is definitely a factor. It is $15 more than a regular screwgate, and $7 more than a twistlock of the same model. I wouldn't buy this if it weren't for the fact that we do climbs where we rappel 10-15 pitches, and those precious minutes screwing and unscrewing add up. Second, it is a bit more difficult for someone with a small hand to unlock it in a single motion. (It was proven to me by my friend who has smaller hands. She still loves having one, nonetheless.)
Overall, only buy this if you need to get off/on belay/rappell in a hurry. Or if you just want to have the coolest magnetic carabiner around.
