Comments about Atomic Bent Chetler Skis - Men's - 2012/2013:
I am 6' 2" and 195 lbs and I love powder and carving fast turns on the groomers.
I was looking at the Atomic Bent Chetlers for quite some time. It looked to me to be a ski similar to the 4FRNT CRJ that I had skied at a demo but with more floatation for powder days. What I liked about the CRJ is it had good float in the powder and was stable carving when the powder was gone. I wanted to find a ski that I could have fun with on the groomers with my family and yet be ready for powder when ever I could find it.
When I purchased the skis, one of the staff commented that it wasn't a "Buck Hill" ski. Buck Hill is a Twin Cities ski area that has a little over 300 feet of vertical known more for turning out racers. I have taken these skis to Buck Hill and they where a blast. True to Atomic racing tradition these skis rip it up on the hard pack. Easily carving turns with the normal camber and side cut under the boot. A lift operator thought it was funny how the tips and tails flapped while carved my turns. I have to say I didn't notice any vibration from tips or tails and the skis felt stable and solid in every turn. Atomic has done a lot to control this with their rockered skis. The 20 meter side cut radius is the shortest I've had in a powder ski and it truly makes for a fun ski even on the groomers.
Next test will be in Big Sky for powder bumps and trees.
Don't shy away from these skis if you find yourself having to ski on groomed runs regularly. It's like having a powder ski and a short race ski all in one; making for a fun day on the slopes no matter what the conditions are for the day.
Service and delivery comments:
The staff at my local Bloomington REI was fantastic. They even called to confirm binding placement to make sure I had the best experience with the ski possible. Thank you.
