Comments about Burton Cartel Snowboard Bindings - 2012/2013:
This is the best binding for my money. The fat ankle strap is the best out there and your heel will be locked and loaded. The toe strap makes heel carves a dream. I would like to see a better base material as the foam compresses over time. Also, a stiffer high back would suite hard chargers slightly better as there is some flex through the base and back when driving turns. Altogether it's the best button binding out there

Comments about Burton Cartel Snowboard Bindings - 2012/2013:
These guys are the perfect binding for all mountain riding. They excel in the park also, but I personally like something a little more flexible for that. These bindings are quite stiff and offer amazing response for an aggressive, double-diamond ride. The backs are quite high (and well padded), which contributes to the sharp response. I have these set up on my powder/all mountain board (K2 Turbo Dream) and the set up is a charm.
Despite how stiff they are, they are quite comfortable ( more so than my soft bindings!). The ankle strap is super cushioned and very comfortable. The cap strap stays in place and never puts pressure on my pinkie-toe (like other bindings have). The strap is wide and avoids applying specific pressure across your toe box. The foot bed is nicely padded and the heel has a gel piece for those hard landings (up to 10' drops and I felt nothing). Overall ,the cushioning is second to none and is among the most comfortable bindings I've ever used.
The bindings are also quite lightweight. They are made from a full plastic construction and are therefore lighter than bindings with aluminum base plates and/or heel cups. However, they are just as strong (unless you like banging your board/bindings around on rocks/other hard objects.. .then the aluminum might be better).
The one down side: the ratchets freeze. This only happens if you're riding off-piste and the snow builds up on the ratchets. The build up then freezes and makes getting them off a little bit of a pain. I solved this problem by tightening the ratchets first (instead of trying to take them off). The ratchets flex more this way and it's easier to break the ice. Then go back and pull the ratchets the other way to get the straps off. Easy remedy!
Overall: great bindings for the advanced+ rider; comfortable and super responsive!
