Comments about adidas Hiking Hybrid Down Jacket - Men's - 2011 Closeout:
I looked long and hard at down sweaters over New Year's, and snapped up one of these from the outlet. When it arrived I was surprised by the design, with stretch fabric panels under the arms and down the sides. Kind of a twist on the usual construction with baffles all the way around, but the more I thought about it the more I liked it.
Bought it as a gift, but I and the recipient both commented on the great fit and long arms. (We're 6'+, and tend to get cheated by sleeve legnth on most purchases.)
Adidas hit a home run with this one, I think, and at the price I seriously wish I'd have bought two!

I was very surprised by how not-warm this jacket turned out to be. As previous reviewers mentioned, there are lightweight stretch fleece panels on the sides and under the arms of this jacket. What you as a potential purchaser need to know is just how lightweight these panels are. Think thick cotton t-shirt material, not powerstretch fleece. Seriously, these panels let cold air in like they are open pit zips. Also, you should know that the panels extend much further down the inside of your arm towards your wrist than I am used to seeing on similar jackets.
I wore the jacket on an evening stroll to Safeway in about 45 degree weather and was shivering by the time I got home because this item leaks body heat like it was made from chicken wire. Which is probably a great thing if you are moving fast and building up a lot of heat (but I do not wear down when I am moving fast). Which means that this jacket had to be returned. Which means that I am sad...
...because I adore the fit and just wish that Adidas had nailed the warmth factor. I bought the jacket for casual wear around town and it turned out to be much better fitting than other jackets I looked at for this same role. I am 6'3" tall and weigh a fit 195lbs. The size large was spot on with sleeves that were (finally!) long enough for me and a body that hugged me like an over-friendly sleeping bag.

Agree with other reviews. Of note, there are panels on the inside of the arm and side of the body that are made of stretchy fleece. They aren't as warm as the down and will let wind in. But at the same time they allow the arms to swing close to the side unlike other poofy jackets and they breath really well. This may be why the jacket is branded as a 'hiking' jacket.
Also, the bottom hem is kind of loose on me. 32" waist 6'2" and I got the large. I do like how the jacket is a bit longer and the arms are a good length. The hood fits close and drawstrings are nice.

This is an excellent jacket and just what I was looking for. It is very lightweight, yet warm. It fits great and is nice and trim. I wanted a down jacket that wasn't bulky. It would fit over a couple shirt layers, but would also fit under a waterproof jacket if needed. This one fits very well. It is a nice length that covers over my waist so that cold air doesn't get it. I like that the pockets are a little higher and not at the very bottom so that cold air doesn't hit my hands. The cuffs are nice and soft yet stretchy. I was a little worried because Adidas isn't really an outdoor brand, but it seems like they've made a great jacket. I do like that the logo is subdued and not an obnoxious color. I tried a similar North Face jacket first but it didn't fit near as well.
It's not waterproof, but it's not supposed to be. I would withstand some light rain and snow, but if I was in wetter weather I'd put a waterproof jacket over it.
Overall it seems like an excellent jacket and I would definitely recommend it.

Bought this jacket because I wanted a compresible down jacket for travel. I didn't know what to expect given the price and the brand but I am pleasantly surprised. It fits very well and looks fantastic.
Its a lot less 'poofy' than the product images but that is just the nature of down jackets. I thought I was going to need a larger compression bag but thats not the case. I think I could get this jacket down to 20oz bottle sized if I really tried (I wear a Small).
The jacket makes no claims that it is water proof so thats a down side. The tags say ClimaProof WInd. So I would say its wind proof but not rain proof. Not that big of a deal though since my rain shell fits over the jacket no problem since its not as bulky as I thought.
Also REI says 70% goose down, the tags on the jacket say 80% goose down, and the zipped pull has a rubber thing with some feathers in it saying that its 70% duck down. So I have no idea the real specs on the jacket. Considering the price I guess I can't complain.
