by PacovichfromAmazing bike, terrific performance!Amazing bike, terrific performance, fit and comfort!, The fit was almost perfect for a 5'8"-5'9" person, the extra coverage on the 29" wheels gives you an undiscovered advantage for flat terrains.
If you're looking for a 29" bike, this is a perfect choice.

by Surprises continuefromWife loves this bikeMy wife, until now, was not a confident rider but wanted to improve. The madrona has helped her step up. I thought it a nicer bike than her ability and intent needed. I was wrong about her ability and correct about the bike. This is an awesome woman's bike and compared to all the others she tested the best for the money. She's pushing it more every ride and the Madrona delivers. My problem has become how to keep up.

by ColoSpringfromExcellent! The Madrona was the best women's 29er I could find under $1,000 (not to mention I used a 20% off and my dividend). Components are excellent and the frame fits my short legs (5'3"). It is a great bike for single track and the 29er is a great ride.

by LudafromAmazing hardtail for the priceOn the MTB price-performance curve there is a sharp cusp, a point past which you pay hundreds of dollars for quite marginal improvements. There is no limit to perfection, but for someone who is not a top competing athlete, this bike seems a nearly optimal choice. It sports a strong frame, very snappy X5 shifters and derailleurs that shift reliably even under (moderate) load, disk brakes with hydraulic actuation, which is already quite unusual at this price range, a very good fork with travel lock valve accessible while riding, and a quite comfortable rise bar. Also, the bike looks good to the point of turning heads (which you may view as a good thing or bad thing, so make sure not to leave it unlocked).
Choosing a bike is a very individual and intimate process, and sharing personal preferences are of only marginal value if any; but this bike has been the only one on which I did not replace a single stock component, except for installing SPD pedals (but bikes normally come without pedals anyway, so that does not count). Novara seems to have done a great job in matching the components to get the most bounce to the ounce.
I am 5'4", and bought size M, which is bigger than recommended for my height by the books, but I am almost too flexible at lower back, and therefore prefer longer frames.

by Kris7047thfromGreat Bike For Rough City RoadsI bought the Novara Transfer last year figuring it was most suitable for my situation, but my small city has rough unrepaired streets that make the Transfer .. any 700C bike tire feel a bit unsafe.
This year I get the REI email with the Novara Bike sale and I had to check it out. I narrowed my selection down between the Hybrid Fiona and a Mountain bike the Madrona. Test road the Madrona and I was in love the way it handled rough pavement, picked up speed when I wanted and gears were easy to shift. Bought it! Took it home and immediately went for a spin around my town. I then knew I had bought the right bike to safely cruise around, and after fitting it out with a rack and bags I haul groceries home. The Madrona isn't just a Mountain bike .. it is far more versatile than that.
