Designed for ounce-counting backpackers, the ultralight Vargo Triad XE stove burns hot at high altitudes and in very cold temperatures.

  • Dual fuel capability burns fuel tabs in addition to alcohol, improving performance at altitudes over 11,000 ft. and in temperatures below 20°F
  • In more moderate conditions, denatured alcohol (sold separately) burns very efficiently and boils 2 cups of water in about 6 min.
  • When you're at altitude or in very cold temperatures, consider burning fuel tabs (sold separately) instead of alcohol
  • Lightweight titanium construction makes the stove ideal for the minimalist backpacker who primarily boils water to make meals; stove weighs only 1.5 oz.
  • Retractable top and bottom legs create a compact design for easy transport
  • Simple maintenance and cleaning ensure reliable performance
  • Use of a windscreen greatly improves stove performance; visit www.vargooutdoors.com for instructions on making a windscreen
  • Vargo Triad XE stove burns denatured alcohol and fuel tabs (both sold separately)

Comments about Vargo Triad XE Titanium Alcohol/Tablet Stove:

This thing is perfect for what it is. Do not buy this expecting to boil a gallon of water at 12,000 feet and -20 degrees. This is a tiny, very lightweight, very simplistic alcohol stove that is for boiling small quantities of water to make backpacker meals, or cooking small quantities of food. I make pancakes with mine. It does not have the power or cooking time of larger canister systems, but that should be pretty obvious.

It's very easy to light. Just fill the central canister with alcohol (methanol, ethanol, denatured alcohol, or isopropyl (rubbing alcohol)) and then put a small amount in the outer cup. Light it with a match. It burns until the fuel runs out. There is no temperature or flame adjustment, nor does it claim to have one.

It really needs a windscreen of some sort, which I usually carve out of snow, make out of rocks, or improvise in some other way.

A few things to remember: You cannot use alcohol that has water in it (i.e. 70% rubbing alcohol). 99% rubbing alcohol works great though. I have heard Bacardi 151 will work but I've never tried it.

I always carry this with me as a backup stove when backpacking in case my MSR Superfly were to break, run out of canister fuel, fall out of my pack, or get stolen by squirrels, etc.

Received stove and tried heating 12 oz water in Snow Peak titanium cup. Made three attempts, not able to achieve boil before fuel ran out.

Comments about Vargo Triad XE Titanium Alcohol/Tablet Stove:

This stove coupled with fuel tabs is very light, easy to use, 100% reliable and efficient. One tab will cook one freeze-dried meal for 2, or heat several cups of coffee from cold water. I have six (6) stoves and use this everywhere except snow.

It would not be good for boiling spaghetti for 4 people, is a godsend for anyone cooking for themselves on a long hike.

I've found the alcohol a bit difficult to manage. It's dependent upon the size of the holes, which may be uneven, too small or too large.

It's an outside stove only. The tabs do not smell good burning. That doesn't affect the food, though.
