Rated4out of5byRunDMCfromComfortable style, but not perfectThese are great boots, and were just what I was looking for: comfortable without compromising style. Merrell is great at this balance. Their waterproofing is a huge plus in wet Seattle weather, and they feel very sturdy - should last a long time. They look really good with jeans. I have overpronation, and these are great for that - very stiff in torsion (twisting) and yet flexible for forward motion.
That all said, the laces are very slippery and I have to do a special knot to keep them snug - they just have no friction with the metal eyelets and so it's hard to tie them. In addition, the top of the boot is a little uncomfortable since it doesn't have any padding and can fold in awkward positions and dig into your upper ankle area if you don't have good socks on. Lastly, for such a tough looking boot that's waterproof, the grip from the sole is pretty awful. It looks good, but in my experience walking on wet Seattle sidewalks, it's worse than a sneaker, let alone a hiking boot. But still better than your average dress shoe.
But these are minor gripes - it's a stylish, durable, and comfortable boot.
*One important note: I always use Superfeet, and with this shoe, which isn't very cushiony, I used the orange (more padded) variety. I usually use the green variety, but the arch on this shoe is good enough. Even though the shoe isn't soft, with the superfeet in, it's just right. I don't like wobbly shoes, given my overpronation. But without the superfeet and using the included insoles, it was a little hard.
