I just purchased a second of these to replace a beat-up USGI issue made OD canteen issued to me a few years ago. The canteen shape and this Nalgene fit into side mesh pockets better than the cylindrical ones and is a little easier to handle.

It also fits, as otherwise noted, into the USGI cup/stove assembly, just as the standard issue. If you don't need the gas mask tube valve in the USGI issue (I don't any more) this is a better product:

1) It's translucent. Out of the case, you can see what's left and what you need to clean.

2) The cap is the same standard thread nalgene has used for years. If you lose it - it's easily replaced.

I have used a MOLLE-compatible canteen pouch rig from a well-known manufacturer that makes great packs, magazine and tactical gear and backpacks in ACU and other colors. The Nalgene is a perfect fit and works better than the USGI for the reasons above. I clean it and other bottles with a sigg brush set which is is great for narrow-mouth bottles of all kinds.

This canteen is the exact same shape and size as the US military canteen. Its shaped to fit the curve of the human body since troops carry it on their belt and roll over it, fall on it, etc. I find that this shape also makes it fit some backpack side pockets much better than round bottles, especially mesh pockets with elastic tops and/or straps that cross that area.

It fits perfectly inside the US military canteen cup, stove and pouch assembly. Plus the cap seems to be the standard Nalgene narrow mouth cap so all the accessories/replacements for those should fit too.

I've replaced the old military canteens that I've had forever. These are half the weight and I like the transparent material that lets me see precisely how much water is left.
