I first used this as a baselayer for a six day winter camping trip and it worked very well. Plenty warm for the weight, and it (surprisingly) did not smell bad after six straight days wearing it. Comfortable, though a little loose-fitting (I'm 6', ~180 lbs and have size M). Started to pill a little bit but otherwise seems durable enough. Have used it several times since then and have found it itch-free and non-stinky each time.

Very comfortable, warm and nice slender fit. Very flattering to the figure as long as you're not fat or have a pot belly.

Comments about SmartWool Midweight Pattern Crew Top - Wool - Men's:
I bought this as a base layer for a backpacking trip in northern MI in late December. While hiking, the temps were between 10 and 25 degrees, and this kept me warm on its own (though I obviously had to put a waterproof layer on with precipitation to keep it dry). Once set up for the night, under another layer, it was perfect. I am tall and somewhat thin (6'2" 180lbs.), but it fit like a glove, and I can wear it around comfortably when not on the trail and it looks great. As an added bonus, after four days of hiking, while it definitely needed a good wash, overall, it was quite resistant to odor, and after being washed, it's fine. Best of all, I could machine wash it at home, and it came out just fine...can't say that for all of my wool products :/
It is a bit expensive, but I have two, and feel like had it not gotten wet accidentally, I would have only needed one for my four day trip (though having a backup is always smart). Absolutely a great product.

Comments about SmartWool Midweight Pattern Crew Top - Wool - Men's:
bought the black/blue stripe in medium for my brother who is 5'8" and about 160lb. the pattern is very subtle in this color combo and it fits him perfectly as a baselayer. it could also work as a stand-alone shirt since it is a mid-weight fabric, and not transparent at all.
i purchased smartwool over other merino wool baselayer brands based on my experience with smartwool quality and ease of care - because it is both machine washable and dryable, there's no need to worry about accidentally shrinking it.
can't comment on the durability of this particular item yet, but if it's like any other smartwool product it'll hold up nicely.
