Comments about REI Cress Creek Soft-Shell Jacket - Women's:
Has some style to it. Lightweight, but will get warm quickly in the sun because it does not breathe. The jacket runs small, I had to return it and get a size up.

Comments about REI Cress Creek Soft-Shell Jacket - Women's:
This jacket looks great and I have gotten lots of compliments. It's not as warm as I thought it would be but apparently there is a liner you can purchase. The liner zips into the jacket via a second zipper which gets stuck almost everytime I try to zip it up or down---very frustrating. The lighter color (green) also shows dirt very quickly but it washes well.

Comments about REI Cress Creek Soft-Shell Jacket - Women's:
I bought this jacket from REI to use, well, recreationally and outdoors. That is, I wanted a coat to wear while being *active* - for me, walking and biking in weather between 20º - 50º. I've had the jacket about 6 weeks now. Here's what I like: First, it's attractive: grown-up, nicely fitted, sophisticated color. Second, it's warm, layers well, and has done a good job of keeping me dry (I bike in Portland OR - lots of rain.) Also, it has a few nice design details, like a little pocket hole to thread headphone cable through - I like that.
BUT, there are a few design flaws that I'm still amazed got through the REI process. First, the elastic cord that cinches the hood pops out INSIDE the jacket. This means that when fully zipped up you have 1) a loop of stiff elastic cord 2) an inch-long plastic toggle and 3) a very cold metal grommet pressed into your face in the chin/lip/nose area. This is a serious drawback - it scratches, rubs and is miserably cold. If the cord popped out to the outside - like it does in pretty much every other hooded garment I own - there would be no problem. I've actually cut a hole in the coat to remedy this.
Second, the sleeve cuffs fasten with difficult metal snaps, which are positioned on the outside of the wrist. Typically, I'm pulling this coat on when I have gloves on, or I'm adjusting it while riding. Other more technical jackets make this process super-easy - loosen, tighten, fasten one-handed to adjust for comfort as needed. Not an option here.
My final quibble is zipper related ... all the zips are metal, and there is minimal shielding between zip edges. When I put ungloved hands in the pockets, I often get a painful and cold zipper burn/scratch. This happens to my neck/face as well.
Obviously, the perfect coat for me is a bit more technical than this. And I think a lot of REI customers don't really want a very technical garment :) which I absolutely do understand. This coat is designed more for looks than performance and it delivers in that department. For those who do want something to be a bit active in, I hope my quibbles are helpful. As for REI, well, I hope you find these comments useful if you make some design tweaks!

Comments about REI Cress Creek Soft-Shell Jacket - Women's:
I really like this jacket, I have the green color. I went to REI looking for something to replace my hooded Columbia soft shell that was on it's way out. I wanted a jacket that would withstand a downpour but not be to bulky or warm if I wore it over a sweater in the fall. This is my daily jacket and it holds up great, even when my baby drools on me. The pockets can all secure with a button or zip shut. My first true test with this jacket was on a ferry to Mackinac Island in November in freezing rain. I stayed warm and dry the whole way. The only thing that I do not like about this jacket is that it features a double zipper for ease of sitting (which it does do) but I find it complicated to zip up in a hurry because both zipper need to match up. Only thing I would change about it.
