Overall a great boot, easy to break in, water resistant so far, good traction. My issues has been noted in other reviews. The covering around the edge of the soles started coming off on my second hike. Now I have pinkish areas on the edges, not what I had in mind. Just strange to make a pretty decent boot and then skimp on that area of the boot. My 7 year old Merrell's never had that problem.

Use so far:
maybe 150Km or so across road, rock, trail, prairie, mud, streams, shallow snow and marsh. Maybe 75F to below freezing in a semi humid environment.

Water Resistance:
I've submerged these babies up to the top (obviously just before water would enter through the top) for just enough time to cross 2-3m wide streams with no water entering. I've tip-toed through marshes and submerged half the boot consistently. I've walked through wet grass for long periods of time, soaking the outside leather. In all these instances my feet stayed dry and continue to stay dry. But I don't push my luck and submerge my boots for x minutes just to see what they can do.

Comfortability and feel:
I borrowed a friend's 15 year old pair of Hi-Tecs and they were a half size too small, so on mine I ordered a half size larger. This means nothing other than that their sizes have been consistent. I got half size smaller than a street shoe (and I double up on thick socks at times), but this really means nothing either. There was no break in time for me and for the first 25Km the boots were extremely comfy. After they were worn a bit the third lace rivot down, which connects to a long piece of plastic on either side started to cause problems. Initially these long plastic pieces caused some discomfort and created a huge painless bruise on my somewhat bony ankles. But over time either the boot or my shoe has gotten used to this and it only cause minute discomfort from time to time while trekking.

Traction and support:
Vibram knobby soles provide great traction in all terrain and the boots are comfy yet provide lots of support. My ankles feel safe even when I'm being lazy and flopping myself around a trail.

Breathability:
Haven't tried these in hot weather but so far, even with two thick wool socks, my feet don't look like prunes at the end of the day.

Others:
The paint on the soles around the bottom has flaked off. Strange to occur so rapidly but they're boots. A lace broke fairly quickly, a minor inconvenience but nevertheless annoying.

Overall:
I got these boots for a smoking deal and think they are working out great. Though they are strap-on crampon compatible, I don't think I would take them for even a half day trek in snow and freezing conditions but everything up to that they seem to work fine.

I bought these to hike the 4 day Inca Trail to Machu Picchu. They worked great, did require a little break-in, but not much. On second day of the hike the sole started seperate from the shoe, this I think is way too early. I would expect a good pair of hiking boots to last a few years. I will be returning them because of this, but I am sad to do so, they were very good and comfortable on the trek,and kept my feet dry.
