Comments about Midland HH54VP2 Weather Alert Radio:

Long ago Midland was the the King of Transmitters going back to the CB Radio Days. I owned a few of these indestructible units made in Japan or the USA. 30 years later, Midland turns to China to produce a simple receiver for weather and emergency announcements and it's a mess.

Other sites report the same problems I encountered: 1. When you place the radio in the charging holder, it periodically shorts out, and you have to reset the time and other data. 2. Controls are confusing and could have been designed easier. 3. The reception is mediocre. 4. Standby Alert time on the rechargeable batteries that come with it is approx. just 2 days. (You can leave it plugged in for constant reception.) 5. It was not until I replaced it with the Yellow Oregon Scientific Weather Alert Radio that I realized that the Midland also had mediocre reception in the same places I go to by comparison to the Oregon.

The Oregon had such a superior lock on to the frequency, stability, and clear sound quality. I thought the Midland was as good as you can get in reception until I heard the Oregon--the difference is remarkable.

Midland needs to go back to the design drawing board or find another parts and assembly company. This is an important emergency radio device and it is failing to perform properly.

I am not sure what is the problem with this Unit--design or production? They know.
