Comments about Saris Axis Aluminum 3-Bike Hitch Rack:
I have a woman's hybrid Trek. Even when using a bar it is difficult to attach the strap nearest the seat. We ended up removing a strap from the mid-position (we have a 3 bike rack, but only use it for 2 bikes) an attached it to the other strap to make it longer. This has solved the problem for us. The strap attachments do not have as much flexibility as there is on the Yakima rack we owned previously. We have only had the rack for a bit and just returned from a test drive - 300 miles on the freeway. The rack was stable and the bikes held their position as well. There was very little movement from either.

Comments about Saris Axis Aluminum 3-Bike Hitch Rack:
I ride 29'er mountain bikes and this rack does not accommodate modern mountain bike builds. Because of my hardtail's geometry, the sleeves that hold the arms in place slide into a dangerous position when loaded, and there is a strong risk of losing bikes in bad places, like the freeway. The straps are too short to go around the top tube near the stem so you're always stuck going inside the frame. The screws that hold the arms in place are weak and the arms flap all over the place. I've replaced one three times and its about to strip out again. I actually cam strapped the arms to my hitch frame on a road trip s the tension from the straps held the rack in place and kept everything secure.
Next, the sizing and spacing of the cradles is suspect. Getting three mountain bikes on this rack requires creativity and some cursing. I've tried facing bikes the same way as well as opposing them. Neither way has an advantage. Also, and I realize that this is vanity, but all of my bike's paint jobs are trashed after one summer, and in very specific places. My friend's full suspension doesn't look nearly as bad after hanging on a Yakima for four seasons. In addition, the shape of the cradles is really hard on cables and housing, which seemed to increase their wear.
Finally, this rack looks to be in pretty sorry shape after one season of moderate use. The straps are pretty worked and I mostly drove on pavement. On a positive note, I did find that a couple of cheaper road bikes hung pretty well from this rack. Even so, there are other better options out there.
