Comments about Green Guru Dutchy Recycled Banner Single Pannier:

REI says it's not waterproof but I think as long as you don't submerge it it'll keep your stuff dry. It certainly handles any rainstorm.
The billboard material may be durable but the paint isn't. Mine started chipping away immediately.
I would prefer a fastening system like Novara uses to attach the bag to the bike. It would be more secure.
The bag rides low enough to make the platform on your rack usable. Mount the bag as far back as possible or it'll bang your heel.
There's a strap and hook on the bike side of the bag; I've no idea of its intended purpose. I don't see how one could secure the bag to the bike with it.

Comments about Green Guru Dutchy Recycled Banner Single Pannier:

The dimensions listed on REI's website are 17x12x7, which calculates out to 1428 cubic inches. The item actually measures more like 12.25x11x7.25. Interestingly, the manufacturer's website lists the dimensions as 13x12x7, and the volume at 1092 cubic inches. Oddly enough, the manufacturer's tag on the bag lists it as 17x12x7!!

The construction of the bag seems great, on par with a Timbuk2 bag. There are a couple of light plastic boards on the inside wall and bottom to give it shape.

Comments about Green Guru Dutchy Recycled Banner Single Pannier:

                Here's a review for the materials-conscious and/or eco-minded consumer (awful buzzword, sorry)

I was really torn over what bags to get for my bike camping trips. I knew I wanted something domestically produced, but I was leery of buying something "recycled" since that wouldn't change the ultimately harmful nature of what these things are made from. I was originally trying to buy a bag that was designed for low eco- impact from birth-to-death (waxed canvas, v.t. leather etc.) But not finding a bag that met my lofty standards, I settled for a "less-bad" compromise and bought a pair of these.

I determined that since these were going into the garbage BEFORE they were made, I could at least avoid the embodied energy that would go into creating raw materials and producing a NEW product.

After much anxiety I feel like I made a solid choice, especially once they arrived on my doorstep. Solid construction, stiff-bottomed, with a good memory for folding-up flat. side tabs to to help keep out water.

They say they aren't water PROOF, but I cannot see water penetrating through the membrane itself. The closures aren't double-fold-overs so some water might creep in if it's really pouring, but if packed properly I don't see it being an issue.

Only complaint is that the first image makes the bag look much longer than it is, and the specs list a 17" width, but these are def. more square. 17" would probably be awkwardly long for most racks and pedal-motion anyways.

                tl;dr : get 'em

Comments about Green Guru Dutchy Recycled Banner Single Pannier:

REI had a stock-out, so I bought manufacturer direct. Same price.

After 35 years, my panniers were getting somewhat worn. Naturally, I'm looking for something that will be a little more durable. I think these panniers are it.

The old panniers served well enough for tours to Yosemite & Sequoia and down the California coast plus years of weekly grocery runs and many errands. The nylon fabric has begun to wear through and some seams are coming apart -- including one at main compartment zipper.

These are made from recycled billboard material. Billboards have to stand up to all weather, 24 hours a day for months on end. The material is doubled-up and encases a tough and stiff plastic which serves to hold the shape of the panniers.

They are designed and sized to fit a standard paper grocery bag. Perfect for making quick shopping trips. Ideal for grocery shopping.

They fold flat to the bike when not in use. In use, they use a flap to secure your goods, but it can be tucked into the pannier if you want.

Since they are made from recycled billboards, no two of these panniers will ever be alike. But the quality of the material, the design and construction is excellent and far exceeds my expectations.

Comments about Green Guru Dutchy Recycled Banner Single Pannier:

I bought this pannier so I can plop by large purse in it, and ditch my frumpy back pack and back sweat situation.

It is perfect! Soo easy to put on and take off, very nice that it folds up. My giant purse fits in it (the flap will even close over it!) My heel has never hit the bag. It is just the best. Very simple and sturdy - I didn't get it very long ago, but I don't see it deteriorating any time soon, super durable.

I was looking for something really simple commute with, I just don't need all those pockets!

Now I look like a more normal human at work, instead of a sweat ball who looks like she's going on a hike.

I'm a daily commuter in all conditions and my Dutchy pannier is perfect for everything I throw in there - laptop, purse, lock, lunch and all. The little side flaps and generous front flap keep the contents dry in both snow and rain, a pleasant surprise. Even under a heavy load, the bag doesn't sag or deform, really sturdy construction without making the bag itself heavy. One added bonus - I get compliments on my Dutchy pannier *all the time*, it's so distinctive and fun! A great bag.

Comments about Green Guru Dutchy Recycled Banner Single Pannier:

I bought this intending it as a gift for a friend but liked it so much that I kept it. Sorry, K.

Nice alternative to the standard grocery-bag pannier: the top flap can be folded down inside to carry tall items or a backpack, or you can fold it over the top and fasten it with velcro. It's capacious. The side flaps keep out rain if the load is not too tall, but I wouldn't count on the contents staying completely dry.

Rack attachment seems simple but secure and fairly easy to adjust for height. Hooks seem to fit rack tubing of various diameters.

The reused plastic banner material has held up well so far (3 months) and is fun.

Design is simple: no interior pockets. It has one carrying handle; a shoulder strap attachment would be nice.

Unlike some panniers designed for town use, this one sits pretty low. It's convenient when you're getting on and off the bike, but the position and the boxy shape mean that heel strike is a possibility. I try to mount mine toward the back of my rear rack.
