Comments about Werner Shuna Kayak Paddle - Carbon Shaft:
This is a great paddle. I have this and Coryvrecken which has much larger blades. These are not whitewater paddles so take any review written by folks using these in classified rapids with a grain of salt. Lightweight so easy to keep paddling all day. I'm a big fit guy and can flex other paddles very easily. I prefer the stiffness of Werner paddles with carbon shafts. Blades slip in water easily and generate a good pull. Check Werner's website before buying this paddle is made for high angle stroke.
If you want high performance spend the money and buy this paddle. If you paddle often you won't be disappointed
Comments about Werner Shuna Kayak Paddle - Carbon Shaft:
I purchased this paddle expecting to upgrade leaps and bounds from my classic plastic NRS paddle. I loved how light it was and the great design. However, I was surfing a class II hole this morning in my XP10 and as I often do, capsized. As I attempted to set up for my roll, the paddle somehow caught the current, smashed a rock and the carbon shaft snapped where I was holding it snapped. I rarely write negative reviews, and have heard only outstanding things about Werner paddles. I am going to touch base with Werner and ask their opinion on the situation. Was it a manufacturing problem? A weak point in the carbon fiber material? Or could it have been just the perfect amount of force at the right angle that just snapped it?
I am sad to say that I have had this paddle for less than a week and it has displayed many signs of weakness. The blade becomes VERY EASILY marked/chipped/damaged when it comes in contact with any hard abrasive surface.
Don't buy this paddle. I hear Werner is a great company and I will buy a dif paddle in hopes of finding the right fit for me.
