Comments about REI Hurricane Ridge Jacket - Men's:
Thr Hurricane Ridge jacket is an excellent coat for wet weather and temperatures down to around 50 degrees F. The zip-off hood adds versatility. The very light fleecy lining adds a bit of warmth. I find the small vertical inside pocket perfect for a pair of shades. The medium fits me pretty well with a tee shirt and long-sleeve sport shirt. A large would be likely be okay for layering. I'm 5'11" and 170 pounds.

I bought and used this jacket for a snowshoeing trip in the White Mts. of NH. It was very comfortable, lightweight, and performed great in both frigid cold, blistering wind, and driving rain.

Comments about REI Hurricane Ridge Jacket - Men's:
I already owned a an REI Ultralight jacket but missed having a lined waterproof jacket with brushed handwarmer pockets. This jacket has both. This is a better jacket for Fall through Spring whereas the Ultralight is better from Spring till Fall. This is a nicer looking jacket as well. One downside on this jacket vs. the Ultralight is that the latter has far more pockets and is appreciablely lighter and so is more stowable.

I've been wearing this jacket on my 3 mile walk, rain or shine every day since I got it. I especially like the breast and inside lapel pockets to keep my GPS and iPod. Every jacket should have them!

Comments about REI Hurricane Ridge Jacket - Men's:
I love this jacket. I do many different things outdoors in the winter and needed to find a windproof & waterproof jacket I could use with different layer depending on what I was doing. This fit the bill. I was out hiking in a heavy wet snow storm and stayed dry and warm. I was also amazed how warm I was with just 3 thin layers and then this on top just standing outside for 4-5 hrs a day of birdwatching in the last few weeks in the very, very cold & windy days and I was warm and toasty while others who had heavy layers on were frozen. I could not be happier with this jacket.

Comments about REI Hurricane Ridge Jacket - Men's:
This jacket is just what I wanted. I definitely researched for a good two months before I purchased because that's just how I am, but I wanted something lightly insulated and waterproof. Most rain jackets are just purely shells, but this jacket takes it a step up with light fleece (I think?) insulation. Either way I'm comfortable wearing just the jacket in the rain or if I need to layering it over something warmer. On that note, this jacket looks great as is (not to puffy or bulky) but also has plenty of room for 3 possibly more layers underneath.
Since I've been in France it has rained minimum once a week and I've never had an issue with this jacket. Some days are warmer than others and I ride my skateboard to classes, so I get pretty hot underneath. If I put on a light jacket underneath with a scarf, hat and gloves, I'm plenty warm. Once I get going on my board I heat up and then just lose the scarf and open the pit zips. Hello cool air.
I also went cross country skiing in this jacket. Same situation, I could open the pit zips when I got hot but whenever I fell over in the snow it kept me dry. And again, with only 1 jacket underneath and a hat, scarf, and gloves, I was toasty the whole day. Love this jacket.

So I'd been looking for a sharp looking, waterproof, and versatile shell for AGES. Just moved to WI, and I needed something to serve my modest recreational interests (hiking, camping, fly fishing trips, etc.), layer for casual days at work, or to throw over a sport coat on rainy trips to SEA and PDX. Most of the stuff I liked was 300-400 bones. OUCH! This jacket fit my bill without breaking the bank. I've used it lawyered with fleece, down, Sir Pendleton Wool, and a host of lesser insulates. It's really been pretty good. Only beef so far is the lack of thoughtful pocket design... but then maybe you get what you pay for in that department, and the lack of reflective matterial. My lab and I almost got blottoed the other night on a walk. Good work REI!

I bought this in the store, so I'd tried it on and knew it was perfect before I bought it. I bought XL, my normal size, and it was just right. Plenty of room for a fleece or down jacket underneath.
Chest high snap in front is perfect when a full zip-up isn't needed. The zipper works fine - anybody having a problem needs to look carefully at the two-way zipper and understand how to fully insert the pin.
Plenty of pockets, though I could use one more inside zipper pocket.
Soft lining around the shoulders and torso gives the feel of a jacket and not just a shell. Good comfort to the lining. Insulating layer required for cold weather.
