    The REI Member Dividend

The REI dividend is a unique benefit of membership in the REI co-op. It's comprised of your member refund—typically 10% back on eligible purchases—and/or your REI Visa® card rebates.

Each March, active REI members and REI Visa cardholders who earned a rebate receive a refund in the form of an annual dividend notice.

Only active members receive annual dividend notices. To maintain your active status as an REI member, you need to make net merchandise or shipping purchases of at least $10 per year, unless you joined that year. Member numbers are issued in one name and only that person receives the member refund. Your number can be used by others in your family, but it cannot be transferred to someone else.

Comments about Topeak Explorer 29er Rack with Disc Mounts:

This is the ideal rack for me. It fits my 29er wheels with disc breaks and is sturdy. I had to buy longer arms though as the ones that came with the rack weren't long enough to secure the rack to my frame.

Was hard to find a rack for this bicycle and this rack works well. Was easy to install. As a bonus I can use my Top Peak pack with panniers that I use on my other bike.

Comments about Topeak Explorer 29er Rack with Disc Mounts:

I just received this rack for my Trek X-caliber. There are no mounting points on the bike for a rack so I ordered a seatpost clamp directly from Trek that has integrated mounting holes. The rack was really easy to install and required absolutely no bending of the mounting brackets.

Living in Western WA I really like the integrated fender since it is next to impossible to avoid going through water on a trail ride. I won't be using the rack often for carrying gear but the fender will get a lot of use so it is very dual purpose for my application.

My wife likes my bike so much we ordered one for her and I will be getting another one of these racks for her bike.

Good - but the design work stopped short

Comments about Topeak Explorer 29er Rack with Disc Mounts:

Overall a decent piece - nice welds, good finish job, etc. The versatility of the design speaks for itself (arguably all I've purchased is the rear basket, but that seems great so far)

Fitment wasn't too difficult (my bike is a Novara Ponderosa) but that's where my only complaint comes in.

Not the point of THIS review, but the mounts under the seat on my Novara frame are ABYSMAL - there was clearly ZERO effort made to align these things in anything resembling a single plane. This was the start of trouble mounting this rack.

The pair of shiny metal brackets provided to connect to the under-seat mounts are about the least Topeak could have done. Stamped metal. In my case (and I can't believe it won't be the same in most cases) the brackets really require COMPLEX bending in several planes to truly fit well.
They jut STRAIGHT forward from the bottom mounting - so unless you're lucky enough to have you seat post mounts RIGHT THERE and TWO INCHES APART be prepared for some serious bendidn'.

I realize that some customization is likely to be required in most rack installs - but the mutilation required on these pieces REALLY cheapens the look of the finshed product. Short of a CAD drawing and a metal brake no one is going to have a great looking install when complete.

I would also comment that I was not able to get fenders to mount - but I can't fully blame that on the rack - once again this Novara frame is proving to be less than the greatest piece if engineering in the REI catalog. I have included a photo of the clearance so that folks can see the distance between the bolts and the top of the tire.

Bottom line - I'd get this again if I needed it on another bike, but I'd steel myself for the inevitable flashback to shop class required to make it fit well, and know that it's going to look a tad hacked......
