Great fit, feel very sturdy and well made. Had them on my 2 Rhodesian Ridgebacks for about 7 hours through multiple wet/dry cycles while on boat and everyone stayed comfortable with no rubbing or chafing. They swam, explored the shoreline, ran and napped in them. Could pretty much pick up my 90lb boy with the handle. My swimmer went about halfway across the lake after ducks in hers-- I'd say she approved too!

I purchased one of the flotation devices for my Molly, a mix bred of about 45 pounds. She was not a water dog by any means.

Molly tested this float coat true to form as she fell in slipping off the gunnel. The look on her face was priceless, but the coat did the trick and the handy handle on the back helped me pull her back in the canoe without taking me with her.

So well worth the cost, peace of mind, and protection of our pups.

Yes, I cheaped out on my dogs first PFD. Handle ripped the first time out hauling dog aboard the kayak. Bit the bullet and have no regrets. Ruff Float Coat is a fantastic safety device for med-lrg dog. Adjust once and forget it. Just 3 buckle clicks and my Taz (70lb male) is ready to hit the water - and he does. He doesn't go deep like with the cheap PFD. His freedom of movement is terrific. His swimming is absolutely unimpeded. Best of all there is no velcro to collect hair. The cheap one was full the first day. CAUTION: Don't clip your land leash to the D Ring on the PFD. The leverage from the chest strap will turn him into a Tractor Pull competitor the minute he hits shore. Great product. Make the investment !

Our APBT loves to swim, but she's built like a brick and not as buoyant as the water dogs out there. This vest is perfect for letting her swim longer and keeping her head out of the water whether she's in a lake or jumping through waves.
It took us a while to find a suitable PFD for my dog since he neck is thicker than her stomach- the new telescoping neck on this float coat is perfect, and the new design is a bit shorter to extend just to the end of the dog's rib cage so it's not too loose on her torso.

We are going to be taking my 5mo old Lab pup out on the lake and researched most of the jackets on the market. I went to REI after I had already seen the others (except for one) in person. I was able to look at the design, clips, sewing, material etc. I can tell you from what I have seen, the Ruff Wear jacket is superior in EVERY way. My girl's ribcage measured 21", so I went with the S (22"-27")and cinched it up all the way and it fits well. It conforms very well to a dog's shape while most of the other coats kind of sat on her back with a flat piece that stuck up and bounced around when she moved. Something else I wanted to mention is the handle. It is so much better than the others! Really really well designed and looks like it will hold up unlike the other models. Think about it. If you go with a cheaper coat and if lets say, 3 hoists in, the handle falls off than you have no way to get your dog back in the boat. You have to go and purchase another jacket and have wasted your money. This handle is designed for use! The way the worked the front chest strap is really nice too and makes it seem like one solid piece. I was able to get this jacket on sale which is AWESOME and would definitely recommend it!

we have three dogs that use these jackets- a dachshund, scottie, and lab. the doxie is comfortable and safe, the scottie (definitely a sinker) gets by just fine, and the lab is ecstatic- he motors around alpine lakes leaving a wake and wagging his tail, which sticks way out of the water because of the excellent flotation . the jackets are also very easy to grab for that accidental dunking. we tried cheaper versions and they were a waste of money- poor fitting, no flotation under the dog, not sturdy. these are highly recommended.
