Comments about Nikon Monarch 5 10 x 42 Waterproof Binoculars:
Nikon Monarch binoculars are the preferred binocular in their price range for nature watching and even astronomy!
My only complaint is that ocular lens cap (not objective ones) is too loose!
REI also is over-priced on them. One can get them at least 30-50 dollars cheaper elsewhere online.

Comments about Nikon Monarch 5 10 x 42 Waterproof Binoculars:
In my world nothing correlates better with quality of life than frequency of binocular use. I finally upgraded from a venerable series of compact models and fell in love with these as soon as I picked them up. The weight, the balance, they way they invite your grip feel exactly right. The image is crisp and luminous. I like to use them at dawn, before there is enough light to see much with the naked eye, and they reveal plenty of detail. Good strap, useful lens caps (both subject and object), sturdy construction, good resistance in the focus and diopter wheels, easy, quick pupilary distance adjustment. Very reasonable price for the quality. I tried out some cheaper 10-power glasses, and there was no comparison.

Comments about Nikon Monarch 5 10 x 42 Waterproof Binoculars:
I am an avid birder and own several very expensive binoculars. I wanted these as a back-up instrument for travel and one which if stolen would not be extremely concerning. The view is quite bright and the resolution good. The "sweet spot" is generous. Keeping in mind that I'm generally a fan of fast focus I found the combination of fast focus (about 7/8 of a turn from close focus to infinity) and the shallower depth of field inherent in a 10 power binocular to be a little too fast and gettng on a bird with precise focus took too long for me. This would likely not be a problem for general wildlife or scenery viewing or for hunting. Despite this drawback and given the fact that one can spend nearly ten times this amount on a high end binocular, these do represent a very good value.

I got one for myself and liked it so much I got another for my wife's birthday. Now we both are happy.
