Light My Fire Swedish FireKnifeis rated4.5714out of5by7.
Rated5out of5byDarrell and Melissa and the 4fromVery strong, very sharp, very cool.I bought this knife so that I would have one to actually use...I love knives but I tend to be protective of them and limit the use so that I can keep them sharp and like new.
I put this knife through what I would describe as a torture test on a weekend camping trip. I used it to split wood (baton method) as well as make feather sticks and generally hack at stuff. It handled it all beautifully. Even after me and my 4 kids beat the knife through several logs, it had no rolled edges and was fairly sharp. A little soap and water at home along with a few strokes through a sharpener and it was like new.
I do wish that REI would offer replacement fire steels for the handle. We used the striker a good bit and it is showing wear. I ordered one online but not from REI, just to have a spare once I use this one up.
Excellent tool for the back pack. Light and the sheath is really useful...holds the knife well.

Rated5out of5byDivigationfromGreat PackageThis is a great combination of fire steel and knife. The price is right if you compare the Mora knife without the fire steel and the fire steel. This is a perfect camping companion.
I would not recommend this as a survival or bushcraft knife but it is perfect for general camping and backpacking needs.

Rated5out of5byOutdoor boyfromGreat first knifeVery good first knife for 8 year old. The sheath is sturdy and the blade is fixed and sharp so it minimizes chances of severe injury. The fire starter works well and can actually light a fire.

Rated5out of5byChris MellorfromGood addition to camping kitI admit I didn't get this from REI - they had sold out. But I really wanted to and it's the thought that counts right? Also I think it is important for other users to know that this is a good and useful product.
I had been wanting a new general knife for a while. I'd looked at foldables and bigger blades and all that. Being in Europe - knives are sometimes funny things. So having an 8" full hafted blade hanging on your hip may be seen as inflammatory.
SO - this knife falls into a sort of "safe" area. It's obviously not a weapon (I got the bright red one) and is a tool - right?
Now - the knife...
Is a good durable sharp well crafted blade. Sure, if you want to spend 5 times the money you can get something a little more robust but for this class of knife and the tasks it is suited for - you couldn't ask for better at this price point.
Can you light fires with it? Yup. Good sparks and plenty of them.
Is it "clunky" - a little - the sheath is hard plastic and looks a bit geeky. SO what.
Is it noisy? There is a lanyard cord that has a bit of plastic on it - this does bang against the sheath and makes some noise. There are ways of dealing with this. It's not a design defect as such.
What's not to like?
Would I recommend it - yes - if you need a good sharp general purpose knife for around the camp and home - this would suit the purpose. If you need a knife that goes that little bit more in the way of fire lighting - yup. THis is the one.
Would I purchase similar? Yes - I can think of one or two of my kids that may well receive same for birthdays:)

Rated3out of5byJRJUSTICE22fromGood Knife but not greatIt's a good knife and it's nice to have the flint striker included. I don't like the plastic piece that is attached to the lanyard of the knife bc it clinks alot against the plastic of the sheath and is VERY annoying. The sheath is kind of bulky and it doesn't attach easily to a pocket or hip. The knife is useful however and does make great ribbon sticks for fires.

Rated5out of5bythreadheadfromGood knife, great fire starter. The other reviews covered all the great features of this knife + fire starter. I'll just reiterate what they say:
- knife is very well made, stays sharp, easy to sharpen
- really like the tactile feel and ergonomics of the handle
- fire starter is one of the better ones I have used
- sheath fit perfectly
- love the color, makes it easy to find when you drop it at night
At first, I though the way the fire starter fits into the handle would eventually lead to a lost knife, or lost fire starter. Nope. Never had a problem.
I'm going to buy one for each of my Scouts.

Rated4out of5byjdubb1977fromNice knife!Great knife, and very sharp. The built in fire starter is a nice feature, and makes this knife a very useful tool for camping, survival, etc.
Really only two drawbacks. First is the lanyard. The clasp really does nothing to keep it attached to the knife. Tie a not in it and throw the clasp away. Second, the sheath holds the knife in, but not super securely.
