Granite Gear Crown V.C. 60 Pack is rated 4.4545 out of 5 by 11.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Backpack for Ultralight Trips Used this pack for 5 days backpacking in the Wind River Mountains. Went on this trip with someone using the predecessor Vapor Trail. The external stretch pockets provide easy access to water bottles, rain jackets and hats. The center pocket does not exist on the Vapor Trail, consequently jacket access was faster for me than my companion when the rain came. Pack carried very well - started at 30 lbs and went down from there. Never had any soreness or discomfort from straps or weight for the entire trip. The roll-top closure is slick - access is fast and tight. The cord-lock compression system also keeps the load compact and tight. The only slight negative is the durability of the stretch fabric on the external pockets. While it works great, I had a couple small holes due to scrapes on granite rocks against my fuel bottle within 2 days use. These aren't getting bigger but it gives a great pack a bit of a shabby appearance. Overall though, I can't see myself going back to a bigger, heavier backpack when this one performs so well.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great lightweight pack I used this pack on a 2 day hike along the Superior Hiking Trail. The only thing I didn't bring along was food for a longer period. I could have easily added a few more pounds of food and this pack would have handled it and felt great. I then used it on a day hike with our family and it was super light with our day gear in it. I carried everyone's food, water, and day supplies. The pack has great padding for as light as it is. I used to have a Gregory Baltoro 65 liter pack that weighed close to 6 pounds. With this pack I did not have to give up comfort thanks to the good padding and I shaved off 3.5 pounds of weight just changing my pack. Sweet! Things I don't like: I wish the side pockets were not mesh that hugged the bag so tight but instead were nylon that stuck out from the pack some so I could more easily stick a water bottle in the pockets with a fully stuffed pack. I also wish the pack has some nylon pockets on the belt strap. I had to buy a separate Granite Gear Belt Pocket which was okay, but bigger than I would have liked and an extra expense. Finally, the belt itself was supposedly a medium sized for 30-34" wastes. I am a 32" waste, right in the middle. All my pants are 32". But I had to cinch the belt buckles all the way down to the last millimeter to get the buckle tight enough. It's good I wasn't any skinnier otherwise the belt would have caused the bag to sag lower on my hips. I plan to get the small belt. Others have reported this problem, so you should take it seriously. But none of these cons warrant avoiding this pack. It is a great, lightweight pack that is very comfortable.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from as light as possible without being silly my dad is obsessed with his vapor trail and talks about it all the time, I've used it once or twice and thought it was all right so when I saw a good deal on the vapor current I snatched it up. personally I think they improved several things with this model: my dad always gets a super sweaty back from the thick padding on the back of the vapor trail, I was leery of the thin, hard padding on the VC at first but after one long summit attempt I can attest to how well it ventilates for being a flat sheet, very little makes contact at any given time making for impressive airflow. the MOLLE webbing on the hipbelt gives you a huge array of aftermarket pouches to choose from, much better then any proprietary attachment system anyone's cooked up. I use a zipper pouch from Blue Force Gear for a rugged, volumous snack pocket. the center stretch pocket isn't a huge deal since you could always lash stuff there on the vapor trail, but the pocket makes me less nervous about stashing an expensive rainshell to the outside of my pack. the waterbottle pockets could be roomier but I can just fit a 40oz klean kanteen on each side so that's all I need. the rolltop closure system is better then the vapor trail in my mind, and the duel over-the-top straps really add support to the load lifters. the tall frame is TALL. I'm 6'2" and pretty impressed by the amount of shoulder lift I get, even though I wear the belt lower then most. the roll top gives you a wide range of volume adjustment and the pack can get bigger then what you should carry with such a minimalist pack. I have bony, sensitive hips and I was concerned about how thin the belt is on this (a good bit thinner then the vapor trail) but it is short enough I found I could actually wear it just under my hip bones without impeding leg movement and don't have to worry about hip bruising at all. my collar bones do get a little tender after a long trip but that's just what I have to deal with. the frame provides an impressive amount of support for how flexible it is, if you pack it right it will move with you while still giving adequate shoulder lift, very handy for scrambling up steep stuff. Lastly, the pack is light enough there really is no penalty for using it as a day pack, giving tremendous value for the money and lots of versatility. Just unpack camp, suck it down and head out.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Pacific Crest Trail Pack! I just finished hiking the Pacific Crest Trail and this is a wonderful pack! It loads the weight to the hips and is very well designed in every respect. I did load it with 35lbs a few times, but it is more comfortable at 30. I am 6'3" tall and the medium fits best. Thanks Granite Gear for a great pack!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Enough Support for 35lbs I purchased this for a week in the Sierra mountains in California. A buddy had recommended this pack since I was a fan of the vapor trail. After it arrived, I felt apprehensive about the pack support due to its flimsy nature and lack of padding. However, went out for 130 miles over 6 days with a base weight of 22 lbs and an extra 12 lbs in food. The pack carried well with no sagging and minor readjustments. They have added some nice features to this one that includes the stretch pocket on the back and two top straps that allow you to easily stow a layer. Definitely would buy again.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Used on my AT2013 thru hike and it was great! I bought this pack for my 2013 AT (Trail name: Techie) thru hike and was very happy with it. The low weight was my primary reason for choosing this pack. It was a good balance between durability and weight. The build and stitching held up well. I got one small tear in one of the side mesh pockets late in my hike but I never felt the need to repair it. The only thing I would suggest as an improvement would be to provide a larger front pocket. The stretch mess can hold quite a bit, but it is very tight to stuff and would be nice if was simply a bit more loose. I would have loved to stuff my tent in it on rainy days, but it was just too tight to do that easily. Would give it a solid 10 if the front pocket was a bit larger. (or looser).

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Light weight but big and strong I took the pack out on a 3-day, 30 mile trip through the North Cascades. I needed something lighter than my previous pack to reduce my base weight. The pack performed perfectly and was even comfortable with my 35 lbs total pack weight. It doesn't have a lot of side pockets, but I used my hydration bladder so that was no problem.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Light weight but no support I use the pack and another for backpacking. My other pack is my go to pack, this one is collecting dust. It is light, has shoulder pockets good for eyeglasses, and reasonably adjustable. Padding and support is minimal, as expected for an ultalight weight pack. The shoulder straps are very close together at the neck, and unless you have a neck as thin as a pencile, the straps rub against the neck and chaff, which is why I cannot wear the pack for long trips. The shoulder staps are not adjustable. No pockets on the hipbelt. Not waterproof. I recommend buying the smallest size possible because the pack tends to bow outward in the back without exta effort to force it against your back. But this will only decrease the with of the shoulder staps at the neck and increase chaffing. I regrete purchasing this pack because of placement of the shoulder staps so close together which chaff my neck.
