Comments about Perception Triumph 13.0 Sit-On-Top Kayak:
I've been paddling a perception search 13 for years now, mostly day trips down the local river, but a few long camping trips on various rivers and have had it in just about every condition, even tight technical areas where it doesn't really belong. I was looking forward to paddling the triumph. its a bit narrower and longer, so i expected it to outperform the search. I was quite disappointed with it the 4 miles I paddled it. The rear end wants to swing around on you when you really push it or when going around corners. I found myself doing quite a few corrective strokes. I'm used to being able to stop paddling and simply glide straight ahead. The triumph wants to turn on you. This may be solved with a rudder, but I didn't have one. For a longer boat, the tank well was much narrower, I found the seat to be uncomfortable, but it is the same style you get with most SOTs. I do think the replaceable skid plate on the keel is a good idea. I really thought this would be a newer improved version of the search 13, but it is definitely a few steps down. There are better performing boats out there.

Comments about Perception Triumph 13.0 Sit-On-Top Kayak:
Good storage hatches and they are bigger that what they appear. Although, it IS comfortable as it is, I would like to have a little more padding in the bottom of the seat.

Comments about Perception Triumph 13.0 Sit-On-Top Kayak:
I might be one of the first to buy one of these kayaks as even the good folks at REI were checking it out when it arrived at the store. REI does not seem to have it stock, but mine got to my local store in about 1 week after I ordered it.
Next day I splashed it in the creeks around Oriental NC and spent 2 days paddling about 4-5 hours each day. I paddled in anything from calm water to moderate chop in 15-20knot winds, with the wind, against the wind and with a cross-wind. This kayak impressed me! It is the fastest sit-on top I've ever paddled, and still felt nice and stable. I almost forgot it was a sit-on-top. Think of it as a fast version of the WS Tarpon. It simply cut through the water and effortlessly glided through any small chop. I did not fish from it, but I see lots of potential surfaces to mount fishing gear.
The tankwell is huge and easily carried a cooler with lunch and cold drinks. It took me a bit to figure out how to adjust the seat, but once I did it, it was super comfortable. I particularly liked the paddle strap on the port side. Very convenient to strap the paddle in place when I wanted to free up my hands.
Boarding and off boarding felt easy and secure and I got in and out at both fixed and floating docks of various heights above the water. I did not try a wet boarding (the waters around Oriental just do not look that inviting to me for a swim), but I will certainly try once I have a chance to put the kayak in the clean ocean.
Without scupper plugs my behind did get wet when paddling and there was always a bit of water around my feet. No big deal either way, but I did get a couple of plugs for under the seat. The foot rests were easily adjustable on the hard or under way and once adjusted they proved nice and secure.
This is the first kayak I have with molded in handles amidships on both the port and starboard sides. They made the kayak very easy to load on top of our SUV, and they are great for carrying the kayak above my head. The bow and aft handles work great when you have someone else help you carry it.
Overall I am very happy with my new kayak and at its current price it seems to be a great deal for what you get, especially when compared with other kayaks on the market.
