Comments about Big Agnes Seedhouse SL2 Tent:

I was looking for a tent that was light weight, easy setup, easy to pack on a motorcycle. This is it. I was camping outside Laramie, Wyoming when a major wind storm came rushing through my camp. The wind was strong enough to rip off my bike cover but the tent stayed true. It also helped that during setup, I put the tent between a large bolders. The only complaint I have is that its cramped for two people and not enough room inside for extra stuff. After this trip, I bought the Seedhouse SL3. I use this one for single mototcycle trips.

Comments about Big Agnes Seedhouse SL2 Tent:

After much research, and two field testings: one car camping in Virginia and another on a five-day backpacking trip into the wilderness of northwest Montana, I found this tent to be the ultralight, best in class tent I expected. Big Agnes is on the upper end of price, but makes quality gear. Setup was easy, and I found the tent comfortable enough for me and my companion (both of us are 6'1ft) and roomy enough when only my girlfriend (5ft) and I. The steep walls do well to shed rain, but provide adequate head room. (Haven't tested in high winds yet). I prefer a front-loading tent and find the vestibule adequate for shoes and cooking, while a little small for storing two backpacks, although possible. This tent packs small (a little bigger than most 40 degree down bags)is perfect for ultralight backpacking or even car camping for two, and even better for solo-trekking/biking for one. The only issues, thus far seem to be condensation, even after ventilating with all guidelines and fly openings, but that was expected in a temperature range day to night of about 20-40 degrees. The tent was quick to dry in the morning sun. Color is natural. The footprint is a must given the lightweight material.

Comments about Big Agnes Seedhouse SL2 Tent:

I backpack a few times a year, mostly in good weather. The SL2 tent is light, waterproof, and easy to set up. It has served me well for maybe around 6 years, but the carry bag tore, holes in the mosquito webbing had to be patched, and one of the pole-hooks pulled out of the fabric and must be sewn back in. It's a trade off between weight and durability. The fabric is just really thin. This tent is also a little snug for two people, again a trade-off for weight. I'd recommend a regular-weight tent if durability is a concern.

Comments about Big Agnes Seedhouse SL2 Tent:

I've used this in 3 backpacking seasons, so I've slept about 20 nights in it. I mostly use it as a 1-person tent. I previously alternated between a Flashlight sleeve tent and a bivy-tarp combo. This tent, weighing a pound less than the former and only slightly more than the latter, has become the only shelter I use.

I inadvertently subjected it to extreme winds one night last fall. I didn't get much sleep but the tent withstood the storm very well. (A meteorologist friend later said that I had been in the path of unusual jet stream downdrafts that could have exceeded 50 mph and I don't doubt it.) Yes, the tent feels flimsy but I can attest that it is quite sturdy.

I don't use a footprint but I am careful to use a pad when I'm inside. I set this tent with 5 stakes in non-storm circumstances. If it's dry enough to leave off the fly, no stakes are needed and it sets up very quickly. With fly it sheds water nicely, except for the usual dribble problem when operating wet back-swept doorways.

I've shared this tent with my brother (we're both thin) and it was tight on width. I'm 6'2" and he's 6'7" and we had no issues with the tent's length. We ended up with some condensation issues where we couldn't avoid touching the side walls. While a close couple could sit out a storm or sleep comfortably in a tent this narrow, it would need to have double side doors to be functional for 2 men, brothers or not.

As a one-person tent this is lightweight luxury. I've never had condensation problems when occupying the tent alone. There's space inside for clothes and some gear, plus a vestibule for boots. The peak is high enough for me to sit up and change clothes without rubbing. It's hard to imagine getting any lighter without giving up a lot of comfort, but I'm always looking.

Comments about Big Agnes Seedhouse SL2 Tent:

My brother and I have used this tent on three trips now from Mt. Rainier to the Grand Canyon. We are the ultralite type and split the tent components so each only carries about 2 pounds with the footprint. This tent sets up in minutes and is very simple. The pole system deserves a Nobel Prize. The only two design flaws are as follows: First, the opening of the door slopes too far back so if it rains or snows and you open the door, water or ice will fall into the tent and on to the face of the guy still laying down. Rude awakening. Second is is that the two people who use this tent together better like each other as it is about 4-6 inches too narrow. Only one person can get ready for bed at a time, get situated, and then tell the other to come on in. Once you are in laying down it works for both of us and we are both over 6 feet, although my brother is very thin. On the bright side the inside of the tent stays warm on those really cold nights and is efficient in holding in heat. We got a couple inches of snow one night in Wyoming and the tent withstood it no problem. Big Agnes is a great tent company and this is closer to a one person than a two person. If you need a bit more room for two people you should consider the Seedhouse SL3.

Comments about Big Agnes Seedhouse SL2 Tent:

This tent is great, I use it alot for climbing 14ers in colorado. Its really light and quick to set up, also used it on a climb of the grand teton. It can seem a little cramped when two people are trying to dress/ get ready for the day at the same time. Also the walls sag a little when not using the fly, but not really a big deal. Overall i really like it though.
