good device. needs a little work. Works well, Not sure how some have struggled so much taking in slack in guide mode. It is noticeably harder to use than the ATC Guide IMO, however, my guide wore out really fast. I mean really fast. It doesn't even look the same color. Also the front Nose where you release guide mode to let a climber down is large enough to fit a carabiner through, unlike the guide. this makes it so much easier. All in all, try out both in store if you can, choose for yourself.

First off, I love this belay device! I started out with the old-school tube devices from the early 90's and thought that was normal. When I got the Reverso it was so different. I can pay out and take in rope so well and has much better friction control than others out there.

Since then I've used pretty much every device out there and still prefer the Reverso, especially for multi pitch. This thing does everything you could need. It has a wide range for ropes it works with, you can rappel, guide, belay, and do it all with double ropes.

This belay device works with wet, frozen, and dirty ropes. It also has a large sweet spot for rappelling, unlike some other devices I've used, allowing to have awesome control regardless of the conditions.

Bought this in March - used it a little in the gym, but took it out for its intended use on a couple alpine climbs recently. First go around with a 9.8 single - very difficult to belay from the anchor in guide mode...pulling the rope through was the crux of the climb. Gave it another go with half 8.5mm ropes...thought the slimmer ropes would make a difference, but it was just as hard. Belaying two climbers at once required all my attention just to pull rope through, couldn't really manage the ropes so it became a mess. Arms destroyed just from pulling up the slack. This was a major problem on a climb up to over 14,000 feet with several pitches. It is light, and smooth when rappelling or belaying from the harness, but it's a liability when speed/energy counts due to poor function. I brought it back to swap for the BD ATC guide - C.S. employee was hesitant to let me return it - for good reason, it looked like hell after just a couple trips. Not only does it not feed, but the metal doesn't stand up well to rub/banging on the rocks. In theory, this is a great item. In practice, not so much. Tested the BD ATC guide in my place with the 8.5s...it's night and day. So much better.

I wanted to see how much better this device was from the Reverso3, so I picked one up. My buddies and I tried it out, and it is one of the smoothest devices we've used. There were a few stiff ropes at the gym we were at, and this thing took them like a champ. We always felt like we were in control. The friction was great, comfortable when holding, and smooth operation. Highly recommended.
