Comments about Black Diamond Trail Shock Trekking Poles - Pair:
I'd been looking for a hiking stick that had anti-shock and locks. At this point in time it's a hard request to fill. I have multiple fusions and the anti-shock is a must have when I hike, it cushions the impact on my spine and knees. Sadly in snow or other conditions, I found the twist sticks to "unlock" on their own. Not an impressive trait. Much cursing, shaking or throwing of said twist sticks ensued when they automatically adjusted their own length.
Black Diamond has finally filled the bill with a locking anti-shock stick. While the price isn't small and the weight isn't as light as I'd prefer, I am glad to see this combination finally hitting the market. Thank you BD.

Comments about Black Diamond Trail Shock Trekking Poles - Pair:
These trekking poles have been amazing! So much so, in fact, that I got my boyfriend, mom and dad all to buy them as well. (The men have the men's version and the women have the women's version) They are nice and light, but feel quite durable. They collapse nicely and are easy to attach to your backpack during times when you don't need them. I have not taken them on any mountains yet, but plan to later this year. I can't believe what a difference they've made in my hiking. I move so much faster and with such great ease just by using these trekking poles.

Comments about Black Diamond Trail Shock Trekking Poles - Pair:
I looked at a number of different makes & models before deciding on the Trail Shock because of the balanced set of solid features for the steep and rocky trails I hike.
I've really enjoyed them, and noticed only one really irritating flaw. There is no mechanism to keep the sections together if one of the locks is open. This makes it possible for sections of the poles to separate and become lost or damaged. I recently had to buy a second pair because the last section of one pole went missing as I was hiking into an area with the poles lashed to my pack.
Over time, the scales that allow you to precisely adjust the length tend to wear off, making it harder to get the poles matched well. On the whole, though, a very solid product that I will continue to use and would definitely give as gifts to other hikers.

Comments about Black Diamond Trail Shock Trekking Poles - Pair:
Went on a moderate hike for about 28 miles. This is a excellent product. Straps were very confortable. I did have to adjust one of the screws on one of the locks but it is a very simple adjustment.

Comments about Black Diamond Trail Shock Trekking Poles - Pair:
I have had these for over 5 years and have put hundreds of miles on them. They have held up great and I would easily buy them again.
I use these mostly for long distance backpacking trips. The terrain I use them on varies from groomed trails to scree to steep climbing, and these trekking poles have performed great on them all. I spent weeks researching different poles and settled on these mainly due to their shock absorption and adjustability--both have turned out to be great. After hundreds of miles the shock absorption has saved me a lot of abuse. I couldn't recommend these more highly.
I also really like how the handle extends beyond the normal grip. If I have to climb something steep but short I don't have to adjust the pole, I can just move my grip down for a short time. The straps also adjust very quickly and are very comfortable.

Comments about Black Diamond Trail Shock Trekking Poles - Pair:
I think these would be great poles for just walking, they are light and collapse to a very small size. But for hiking in the country side, even on a level path, if the ground is soft or if a piece of brush or root catches the basket, they expand & separate. I tried turning them to tighten the connection and it did not appear to work. I ended up taping the areas where the poles connect and they worked fine, except that even then when they catch on something the grips would slide up.
Perhaps I don't know how to connect them so they stay tight (even though I read the instructions), but this seems to be a flaw. I will say that I have another pair of Black Diamond poles that I use for backcountry skiing and I love them.

Comments about Black Diamond Trail Shock Trekking Poles - Pair:
This is my first time using trekking poles. Before buying, I tried out shock and rigid (no-shock) poles in the store. Given the shock pole's very slight change when I compressed it by hand, I expected to feel little or no difference from the rigid pole, but when I tried them on the floor, the difference was amazing. The rigid poles transmitted a shock into my arms, whereas the no-shock poles absorbed the shock. I initially thought I had overreacted about the difference, but after repeated comparison trials, I was certain no-shock poles were the ones for me.
A couple of days later, we went on two hikes, totaling about 10 miles, consisting of mixtures level, inclined, smooth and very rocky surfaces, sometimes with very narrow passageways. I decided to use only one pole this first time out just to see what using a pole felt like. It was great! It was especially helpful in balancing when traversing those narrow, inclined, rocky areas.

I weigh 250 and one of the poles snapped when my footing slipped and I put most of my weight on the poles. Loved the grips and shock absorbing. Adjusts easily. Pole bows out too easily under pressure.

Comments about Black Diamond Trail Shock Trekking Poles - Pair:
I love mountain hiking, but at 50, going down a mountain, my old knees aren't what they used to be. Fellow hikers I met were using & recommended this model to me. So far I have used them on the last 4 hikes & they have made a world of difference of relieving the pressure on my knees. The shock absorbers are a must-have, otherwise, you will have very sore wrists. I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 because I feel they don't need to be as long as they are (when extended) If shorter would help as far as transporting in a backpack when not in use. But I really like them. My old knees thank you.
