The REI Meteor pack is designed for young hikers heading into the outdoors. It's built to fit kids from approximately 10 - 16 years old.
- Contoured, padded shoulder straps with breathable panels offer carrying comfort; contoured hipbelt wraps around hips for support
- Durable molded foam back panel features channels for air circulation, increasing ventilation to keep child's back cool and dry
- Load-lifter straps and sternum strap help balance and position pack properly; dual aluminum stays distribute the weight evenly
- With a rip-and-stick torso adjustment, shoulder strap system easily slides on pack's frame to fit torsos of varying lengths
- Features top-loading main compartment, floating top pocket, 2 large zippered side pockets and front essentials pocket
- The side pockets are large enough to hold 1-liter water or fuel bottles and a fishing pole can be strapped behind them
- Right pocket is hydration compatible; with a tube exit port and hanging toggles, it can hold a 1-liter reservoir, not included
- Externally accessible sleeping bag compartment with a zip-away internal divider handles bulky bags
- Single tool loop, front daisy chain and 4 accessory points for lashing on additional gear
- Side compression straps let you cinch down loads for jostle-free carrying
- Made of lightweight yet tough 420-denier ripstop nylon, 600-denier polyester and 840-denier ballistic nylon bottom for durability

i am an 13 year old scout and my dad bought this pack for me. i took it on a 100 mile hike on section A of the pacific crest trail during the hike it was very comfortable and durable.

I bought one for my oldest son when he entered Boy Scouts. It holds together great. I've been able to cram a winter-weight sleeping bag in the bottom compartment with no tearing over the years. I have not been disappointed. I ordered another one during a sale since the price was too good to pass up.

This pack is perfect for the smaller youth and has all the features you would want in a first pack. It's rugged, adjustable, and comfortable. The belt fits the smallest of waists, which is hard to find in most packs. REI's Passage 65 is larger and maybe a better choice for bigger youth and in the long term, but this pack will hold enough for a 3-5 day trip with little problem, if you pack light. You load a pack at <25 percent of a youth's weight anyway. The pockets and holds on the outside are very convenient. You can't beat the price either. In 2-3 years, we'll likely hand it down to an incoming scout and get a new pack.
