I bought this pad to use as part of a multi-tier insulation system for my hammock camping. I add this to my pad for hammock camping that isn't cold enough for my underquilt. I also use the pad system with my underquilt when the temps dip too low for the underquilt to handle alone.

The hot-spot works very well in terms of keeping my arms and hips from developing cold spots. The foam insulation is the perfect balance for weight and effectiveness.

I find that my sleeping pad still has a tendency to move around... even with the hot spot. I am going to sew a sleeping pad sleeve into my hammock to deal with this and render the issue moot.

If you are looking for something to prevent cold butt syndrome on your hips and arms, this is the ticket! If your only concern is that you have a sleeping pad that slides around, this won't make much of a difference.

All in all, I find that it is a decent piece of gear that is worth the money I spent.

I bought this for use with my REI 3.5 pad, unfortuanately, my pad is wide and the ENO Hot Pad is not. I have yet to do this, but I will be splicing a piece on the back so it fits my pad, other than that, it is well made and serves it's purpose in a hammock - it keeps your arms and hips warmer as it insulates that part from the cold.
As I just bought the pad, then switched from tent to hanging, I wanted a way to use the gear I had rather than spend more on underquilts, etc.
This is the only pad holder I know of.
It would work on the ground, for those who tend to come off the pad. I don't backpack, so it's up to you if the weight is worth the comfort.

Out a month ago at 28 degrees and cold with Thermarest only and cold.

Added Wings last week and warm at 21 degrees.

The last little bit to make the system work well in cold weather

Just spent the first night with this in my hammock. It was down to 55 and it truly did help keep my thighs and arms warmer. I know that some DIY folks have made contraptions similar to this that might cost less and might be lighter, but I'm not that crafty so I'm ok with paying someone else to do it for me! It is a little costly for what it is but it does work as intended. And I wish it were a little lighter, but I guess I'll have to make my own to get that:-)
