Comments about Pacsafe Stashsafe 100 GII Hip Pack:
After many years of wearing a belt and/or waist bag, this is the best. Room for all I carry, strong and durable, and security I have never had before. I ride a motorcycle and do not like sitting on my wallet or trying to get items out of my pants pockets. The added security system is great. I bought two because I want a replacement if this one ever wears out. The outer material is easy to clean. I will be buying other Pacsafe items from REI soon.

Comments about Pacsafe Stashsafe 100 GII Hip Pack:
I recently purchased this security waist pack after several positive experiences with other PacSafe products including the SlingSafe Backpack, the VentureSafe 20L and the MetroSafe 350 backpack. However, this latest waist pack model from PacSafe has a fatal flaw, at least in terms of its security features.
The product instruction manual attached to the Stashsafe 100 GII hip pack states: "Smart Zipper Security®: zippers fasten to concealed clips, making it hard for pickpockets to unzip and snatch your valuables."
However, the waist pack I purchased does NOT have any concealed clips to which the zippers can be secured. I went over the seams at the zipper end of the pack inch by inch - there are NO hidden clips there.
The only way to secure the zippers closed is to PADLOCK them to the pack's D-ring, using the heavy included padlock. According to the product's instructional video, the padlock in intended to lock the waistband's steel cable to the pack when securing the pack around a chair, pole or other object. However, it is impractical to use a keyed padlock to secure the pack's zippers during normal travel use.
With no reasonable method to quickly and conveniently secure the zipper tabs, this becomes nothing more than a nicely designed, smallish and expensive waistpack with some security features (the mesh and RFID-blocking pocket) - but without the zipper clip security on which most PacSafe users rely. BTW I did go back to the store and check several other packs of this model - ALL of which were lacking zipper clips. Seems like they had a manufacturing misstep on this item.
I have written to PacSafe to request a warranty repair to install the clips, but have not yet received a reply. If they can't provide this service, the pack is going back and I'll try a different brand.
REI, please ask your PacSafe vendor rep about this missing key element of the pack's security features! Thank you.

Comments about Pacsafe Stashsafe 100 GII Hip Pack:
After reading another writer's review, I measured my waist at 50 inches and this barely fits, but I can wear it. For protection against pickpocketing- there is no better product. The buckle is designed to be right at the front and is hidden by a velcro cover. Many other bags have the belt buckle at the rear, which is easliy removed by a thief. Plus, a steel cable runs through the entire belt and can be locked onto a ring with a provided padlock. There is no way a casual pickpocket is going to rip this off of your waist if it is locked in place! There are two main zipper compartments. You have the option to lock one or both compartments, or none. I found it easy to lock one of the zipper compartments that held my passport and the bulk of my cash, and left the second compartment unlocked with small amounts of cash and a compact camera, comb, lip balm and a few other small items. There is a small velcro pocket on one side of the pouch that is really handy for keeping one of the padlock keys in. This bag became my purse when traveling. Cinched around my waist, I was free to walk about unfettered by a shoulder bag or backpack- which can easily be stolen. The slashproof mesh and steel cable give a lot of peace of mind when traveling. Yes- you look like a nerdy tourist wearing this- but it's worth it to keep your passport and cash safe!

Comments about Pacsafe Stashsafe 100 GII Hip Pack:
I was so excited to find a replacement for my husband's fanny pack. After I gave it to him, he immediately packed his essentials up. It worked great for his needs until he tried in on...it was 6 inches short! My husband is tall and wears a size 44. Unfortunately, I had to drive back to an REI Outlet to look for an extender/belt extension materials. I could not find any so I had to return it. Thanks to the excellent return policy. Hopefully, pacsafe does not limit this product's potentials in the middle.
