Comments about REI Sub Kilo +15 Sleeping Bag - Women's - Special Buy:

Used in New Mexico desert and Northeast forests this winter, and definitely got the job done in below freezing situations in both places (I do use a +5 degree liner, but was still warmer in this bag than in some synthetic bags rated to 0 degrees that I've used for winter backpacking before) .
I feel less restricted in this bag than I have in other mummy bags but still very cozy.

Very light and packs down well, I plan on it being my main sleeping bag on my Appalachian Trail thru-hike this summer, I will have to see how well it handles that trip, but has endured well so far with my 70lb coonhound puppy walking/stumbling all over it while I'm trying to sleep

No problems w zipper so far, and the handing loops have been very helpful for airing out

Very happy with the performance, weight, and price you get with this sleeping bag

Comments about REI Sub Kilo +15 Sleeping Bag - Women's - Special Buy:

For the price, weight, and packability you probably can't beat this sleeping bag. It packs down into a size that's even smaller than the stuff sack it comes with - no more than the size of 2 nalgenes.

I am 5'6" which is always on the cusp of a women's long bag - I bought the regular length and it was the perfect size. This is a fairly slim cut, might not be ideal for anyone who gets a touch of the claustrophobic in mummy bags. Hood is a good shape, cinches nice and tight, zip pocket for sundries, generally a well designed bag.

Only possible downside - temp rating is too low. I probably wouldn't try to use this bag in 15 deg temps, even the standard formula of +10 degrees to the listed temp rating might be a stretch. I took the sub kilo on a backpacking trip to the high Sierras (10,000 ft elev) in October with nights down to just above freezing, and I was comfortable. I would rate 25 or 30 degrees for optimal comfort, which makes this an amazing 3 season bag.

For any possible use other than winter camping in cold climates, I can't think of a reason not to go with this bag. I'm very pleased with my purchase.

Comments about REI Sub Kilo +15 Sleeping Bag - Women's - Special Buy:

I have had this sleeping bag for about 2 years now, but I end up using my other 15F bag from REI (the older model, not as light) because as others said this one did not keep me warm. Even in summer nights in the CO mountains I felt like I needed my other one. Now, for long backpacking trips it is ideal because is light and packs small. The temp I would say it should be above 30 to stay warm on it.

I love this sleeping bag... it's very fluffy and warm but packs pretty small. My only complaint is that I have to buy a new stuff sac - the one that it comes with is too roomy when you squish it all the way down.

Comments about REI Sub Kilo +15 Sleeping Bag - Women's - Special Buy:

A friend spotted this bag when it was on super-sale at REI, and I picked it up completely on impulse - I wasn't much of a backpacker at the time. I am SO glad I did!

This bag is awesome - totally comfy, and while it really is a 3-season bag, I've used it at temps as low as 18, and I was warm (granted, I dressed warmly, too).

A few feathers do leak out almost every time I use it, but not many overall. I *always* use a liner with it, to help preserve it, although there are plenty of warm nights where the bag is just a blanket.

It packs down VERY small, especially for a +15 bag - my friend and I have nicknamed it "the grapfruit bag" b/c it ends up being about the size of 1.5 grapefruits when packed. I've been searching for a decently priced summer bag for 2 years now, and I still always use this b/c its usually lighter and packs smaller.

I have only used this bag once, but it was a fairly challenging hike, and this bag packed small and light. The Temperatures was in the 40's and I was actually very toasty. I would get warm and unzip, then get cold and have to rezip. I would rather be toasty than cold, so I loved the bag! I am 5'6" and ordered the long which I am glad I did because it didn't feel too long. I am extremely happy with my purchase! I highly recommend.

Comments about REI Sub Kilo +15 Sleeping Bag - Women's - Special Buy:

I've used this bag for about three or four trips into the backcountry, with trips lasting 3-6 days. What sold me on the bag originally was the price, weight, and size.

In the end, I returned the bag because it just did not keep me warm at the temps advertised. For me, this should really be labeled a 40 degree bag.

When I went to the store to shop for a new bag, I tried to compare the loft of the Sub Kilo with other bags. It is comparable in loft to the 40 degree Marmot bags.

I purchased a 15 degree bag by Marmot (Pinnacle). Before returning the Sub Kilo, I took a picture of the two bags in their stuff sacks. I did not squish the Sub Kilo or fluff up the Marmot. What you see is what you get! It's obvious which bag will actually serve as a 15 degree bag. Looking forward to taking the Marmot out and staying warm!

Pros (for those who sleep warmer than I do): This bag really packs down SMALL and is VERY lightweight.

Bottom line: I would not recommend this bag as a 15 degree bag, bu as a summer bag where temps will stay above 40, this would be a great bag.

Comments about REI Sub Kilo +15 Sleeping Bag - Women's - Special Buy:

I bought this sleeping bag early last fall, so I've only used it a handful of times since then (camping), but I'm impressed with how warm I am during 25-30 degree nights - I usually wake up in the morning almost too hot! (This is sleeping in a t-shirt and my underwear) I am typically FREEZING cold at night, so this bag was a pleasant surprise and totally worth it. It's also amazingly lightweight and packs down really small, which will be awesome for backpacking trips this summer.

I do find that the zipper can get stuck sometimes, and you have to make sure that you keep the zipper straight as you pull it up, but it's never ripped the fabric and as long as I don't yank on it I don't see it ever being a big issue. I think as long as I store it unstuffed and take care of it, the bag will last me years.
