With a supportive fit, supple uppers and stiff, lugged soles, these Giro Privateer mountain bike shoes are built for jumping stumps and riding up those gravelly fire roads.

    • Supple microfiber uppers (with nylon mesh inserts) give a glovelike fit with excellent breathability
    • Dupont Zytel® nylon soles efficiently transfer power to the pedals and provide greater fatigue resistance than traditional nylon soles
    • Molded EVA footbeds with medium arch supports; EVA footbeds feature an antimicrobial treatment to help control odor
    • Strong and secure ratcheting buckle (replaceable) allows precise on-the-fly adjustability; make microadjustments to match the ride's intensity
    • 2 rip-and-stick closure straps provide a solid, secure fit; offset D-ring closure at mid-foot relieves pressure points
    • Lugged outsoles offer traction on trails even when you’re off the bike
    • Giro Privateer mountain bike shoes are compatible with SPD pedals (pedals typically include cleats; cleats are also available for separate purchase)

Please note: Giro products can only be shipped to the U.S., Canada and Mexico.

Comments about Giro Privateer Bike Shoes - Men's:

These are great shoes that are really comfortable, but the sizing seems to be a little off. I had a buy a half size bigger than usual to get a comfortable, but still very snug fit. The soles are quite stiff, but not as stiff as a road shoe. The grip is good but chunky enough to not trap little rocks etc. I use these as a general commuting shoe as well as a mountain shoe.

Comments about Giro Privateer Bike Shoes - Men's:

Two years ago I got serious about mountain biking and picked up a pair of used Lake lace up shoes that were probably 7 years old. While worn out, they fit amazingly well and I rode better than ever before. The soles finally wore out so completely that I needed to get new ones. These seemed to fit the bill. I tried them on and they fit like a glove (though while I usually wear a 9-9.5 the ones that fit were a 10). Out on the trails they are extremely stiff and light as a feather. I live in Boulder and use them for everything from epic long xc rides to technical trail riding. The added power I'm getting is incredible. On hard uphill climbs I can really feel the difference in stiffness. It translates into climbs that feel at least 10% easier. It really gives you the feeling that the bike ends not at your foot, but at your ankle if that makes any sense.

The black on black with gum soles looks great, and will stay looking great for years to come I'm sure, scratches seem to just disappear.

My only complaint so far is toe numbness on both feet. No matter how tight or loose I have the straps, I'm still getting some. It's not that bad, most of the time I hardly notice it. It does seem to be getting better with time so it could just be that they aren't as broken in yet as they could be. This is a problem I never had with the lace-up Lakes, so it might also be to the fact that with straps, you will never get as perfect a fit as with laces. Something else I noticed is that while the toe box looks small, it is actually very spacious! The back and middle of the foot feels nice and snug, but the toes have some room to move. Is this contributing to numbness? It seems like it would be the opposite. I'm not sure at this point.

In conclusion, I'm really loving this shoe. If you are at the point where your fitness and bike aren't making you any faster, maybe look to upgrading to a really good upper-mid-level shoe like this. I don't race, but if I did I'm sure these would work great. For a serious "weekend-warrior" rider like me though, the price point is perfect. I really don't think I could have justified spending an extra $100 for a carbon base.
