The lightweight Petzl Tikka Plus 2 headlamp pulls together 5 lighting modes to ensure you can see and be seen during nighttime adventures in the mountains and around town.
- Single high-output LED provides even, white lighting throughout your field of vision with no blank spots in the beam; special lens optimizes the reach of the beam to 40m
- Red LED positioned to the side of the white LED helps preserve your night vision; use the headlamp as a blinking light to increase your visibility in urban environments
- Push-button switch easily changes between 3 white lighting modes (high, low and flashing) so you can choose the appropriate light level for the task at hand
- White LED delivers 70 lumens on high
- Also change between 2 red lighting modes (continuous and blinking)
- White light on low level provides up to 185 hrs. of use and on high up to 58 hrs.; red continuous provides up to 100 hrs.
- Hold down the on/off switch to change between red and white lighting modes
- Battery charge indicator light comes on when the beam distance diminishes to 5m and when there is only 50% battery life remaining for proximity lighting
- Provides IPX4 water resistance for reliability in inclement weather
- Headlamp tilts to point light where you need it
- Adjustable elastic headband holds the light securely in place; colorful headband and plastic casing add a little style
- Compatible with the Petzl Adapt Tikka 2 system (not included), which allows you to quickly and easily attach the light in a variety of places
- Battery compartment is hinged to allow simpler access than the previous version of the Tikka Plus; compartment closes easily and securely
- Runs on 3 AAA alkaline batteries, included; Tikka Plus 2 is compatible with lithium, rechargeable NiMH and rechargeable NiCd batteries (sold separately)
- Also compatible with the Petzl Core rechargeable battery (sold separately) that transforms the headlamp into a rechargeable and customizable light

I bought this for a spelunking/backpacking trip. Before purchasing this headlamp I did a lot of research, just like you probably are. It is a great balance of weight, cost, lumens, battery life, and durability. I bought it for the spelunking trip, but I have been using it on a daily basis. It's perfect for caving, backpacking, camping, running, and general night use. I recently did a brake job on the Jeep. Having a headlamp on was handy in the wheel well.

This headlamp is great for any time you might be out a little later than planned. I mainly use this for working in dark areas around the house, and for night time activities where a light is needed but a flashlight won't cut it. I like that you can pivot the lamp for aim adjustment. I also purchased the pouch, for protection and extra battery storage. Plus being able to just toss the case into anything to carry makes it a compact and lightweight package.

My neighborhood has no streetlights, so I find myself using this light many times a week, for after work runs, and taking the dog out for a few miles when he doesn't get to the beach during the day. It's light enough to not bounce when running and the low-light mode is bright enough for me use 90% of the time on the street, though I can see the advantages of the high output while on the trail.

Great lamp, adjustable beam, red mode is a nice addition for the price, good battery life. My one complaint is what seems to be a oversight during R&D and that is that there appears to be a decent amount of light leakage. As said in previous reviews it leaks at the bottom, shining light onto your face, but it also leaks on the sides. I colored in the clear plastic on the bottom with a sharpie and viola, no more light leakage. Overall a great lamp for the price.

I needed to upgrade my younger son's head lamp. His previous one was bought at the camping section of a large retail store. His first light did the trick, but it quickly fell apart.
I decided to look for something in the $30 range. The Petzl Tikka worked well. The light was bright (45 lumens) and the multiple settings worked well. My son loved the cool looking designer head band too that came with it.

I've owned several Petzl headlamps starting all the way back when the lamp was huge and had a battery pack at the back end of the strap. They never disappoint, and my last one really took a beating. Camping with a bunch of friends, one thing led to another and my friend was taking the solid Gerber axe to my spare petzl, which was this item. Next morning my friend pieced together the headlamp, and it worked just fine. True story. The only dislike I have is the clear casing which diffuses light into my eyes in the dark. Just means that I wear the headlamp a little higher than normal. I love the red night vision option, which is very handy in the woods. I bought a blackdiamond headlamp and it is not reliable and is prone to shutting off at critical moments. Lesson learned. Stick with Petzl.

I use this headlamp for running in the early morning hours LONG before daylight. It's very bright, lightweight, and very comfortable to wear.
I've used it about 20 times since I first got it on 40 minute runs and the light is STILL bright and no indication of low battery yet (using alkaline batteries). I'll probably switch over the rechargeable batteries next time around to satisfy the environmentalist in me.
The one drawback is that I do not see a way to wash the elastic headband by detaching it from the lamp. This would be nice since your sweat is absorbed by the band. I guess I'll hand wash it and line dry when needed, but sure would be easier to throw in with the rest of the laundry.
