Like I said almost too Bright, the diffuser helps a lot, and the High, medium, low setting are a must and where used.
If I where to run into a Bear in the middle of the night I would want this light on my head to blind the Bear

Comments about Petzl Myo RXP 2 Headlamp:

I work in the technical rescue field and have used many headlamps ove the years. They never seem to be bright enough or the battery dies really quickly and on high beam setting, or the beam it self is to wide or narrow. This headlamp has it all. The beam is adjustable, the batteries are common batteries not 123 batteries which is awesome. The high beam is super bright. I dont even need a spot light anymore when im using this headlamp duck hunting to find my duck blind out on the water in the early morning.Another great thing is that the buttons are bigger so if you have gloves on they can easily be felt and operated with heavier gloves on. Yes it is a tad bulky, not for the ultra light minimalist user, but its a spot light on your head what do you expect. If your looking for a rugged super bright head lamp, this is it!

Comments about Petzl Myo RXP 2 Headlamp:

A girl I was dating gave me this a couple years back before I left on a trip of mine. I thought it was a nice gift but I didn't realize how useful and reliable this thing would be. I have had this guy on three continents and endless adventures.

The biggest testimony to this headlamp is on a Tuk Tuk (google it) ride in Cambodia. We had a two hour round trip ahead of us and we started at about midnight. Being a super rough dirt road, all of the bumping made the Tuk Tuk's light go out. It was then I pulled out this baby and used to for the next hour and a half as a headlight for the vehicle. Needless to say we didn't crash or hit anyone or anything. This headlamp rose above and beyond the call of duty.

I simply don't go on any adventures without it.

Comments about Petzl Myo RXP 2 Headlamp:

I just got the myo RXP in the mail. Its feels exactly the same as the older MYO XP, but its much brighter. Compared to the MYO XP, this lamp has a brighter, wider beam and it's regulated output is awesome! My older MYO XP dimed over time which, as you know, gets annoying.

The boost mode on the old XP makes the light brigher in any mode, but that doesn't occur with the RXP which was confusing to me so I emailed petzl customer service to make sure my RXP light was functioning properly.

Note: For the RXP, the boost mode does not work on levels 9 and 10 as stated in an email that I received from petzl:

"The boost mode does not work in modes 9 and 10 because it would drain the batteries very quickly, overpower the circuitry, and get the ;lamp very hot. The lumen difference between those modes and boost is fairly negligible, so I don't think you'll have too much trouble there."

That explanation makes sense and overall, I love my new headlamp!

I bought this for primative camping, hiking and riding my bicycle at night all which it does amazingly! The light is brillant, regulated, programmable and also has a built in diffuser. I have also used this device for computer repair work too. My only con is that it doesn't have a red light / diffuser, but I purchased this knowing that :) If your on the fence about buying it don't hesitate you will love the quality and features it has to offer.

Comments about Petzl Myo RXP 2 Headlamp:

I have the previous (unregulated) version of this headlamp. It still works and I love it. I bought another because it's convenient for me to wear one headlamp and have another in a drop bag for later.

Petzl doesn't attach the strap that runs from the headlamp back to the battery. Instead, they provide the strap and two "d-clips" and allow you to attach it yourself. That wouldn't be a big deal except the d-clips themselves are fragile, at least on the first two units I got.

When I was attaching the headstrap to the first unit, the second d-clip broke. I assumed it was defective because I didn't think I was forcing it or improperly assembling the unit. I acknowledge that I wasn't paying a huge amount of attention, because I had successfully assembled (more than a year ago) the previous unit.

However, after returning the broken unit and getting a replacement, I paid much more attention and saw that getting the d-clip through the hole attached to the battery compartment was a little tricky. Passing it through seemed to stress the d-clip, but I was relieved that it made it through intact. That relief was short-lived though because when I went to insert the prong into the hole, the prong broke off.

It's possible that I was doing something wrong, but I did look closely at the instructions before assembling the second unit. As best as I can tell, I followed them correctly. It looks like a slightly larger hole on the battery compartment or a less brittle compound for the d-clip would prevent the problem I had.

By the way, review headlines are limited in length, so I had to omit "(probably)" from the headline. I would have preferred to write "Excellent lamp (probably), fragile retaining clip" because I did briefly turn on the first unit I had before I tried to attach the strap. The beam was nice and bright and I assume the output matches or exceeds that of my previous XP headlamp. However, due to the d-clip breakage I haven't used the headlamp enough to know for sure that it's an excellent headlamp.

After I lost three sets of batteries I decided it has no practical use at all. I count headlamps as a sailor and I have used or bought many. I think this one the worst because you never know when you take it out if it will work.

Comments about Petzl Myo RXP 2 Headlamp:

Like most Petzyl products this headlamp is very durable and reliable. The high output LED lamp is SUPER bright and the wide angle flip up lense actually works.

The only cons I have are the battery pack is a bit bulky and the LED light does not highlight rocks or tracks when on the trail. But I have to say on my trail runs or MTB rides this is still my headlamp of choice.

It's worth the money and I'm already planning on buying another since my wife and friends keep stealing mine.

Comments about Petzl Myo RXP 2 Headlamp:

As a piano technician, airplane mechanic, pilot, occasional hiker, and guy who likes to be prepared for adventure, I was looking for a versatile, useful, & reliable headlamp. Tending to research things thoroughly before I buy them, I finally settled on the Myo RXP because of its brightness, different lighting levels, long battery life, and use of common AA batteries. This headlamp will be a huge asset to me in my trade, where I often have to work with both hands in cramped, dark areas.(Note: REI used to carry the Myo XP -- the older, nonprogrammable version of this Myo RXP.)The bright setting on this light is very bright -- great for looking for what's making that odd sound in the woods. However, the bright setting is way too bright for the kind of up-close work that I do, which is why the programmable lighting levels are so valuable for me. One disappointment, though, was that the 8-lumen level is still too bright for use in the cockpit on night flights. I guess I'll have to stick to my el cheapo mini [...] headlamp for those rare times when the cockpit lights fail.Battery life is very good according to the comprehensive time / beam distance table furnished in the instruction manual. I have not used the light long enough to give an experience-based assessment. The "smart" light regulation system makes full use of the batteries and saves the LED from overheating. It gives regulated light for the first several hours (exact amount of time depends on the lighting level), then switches to non-regulated light to squeeze the last drop out of the batteries. The battery indicator is solid green for regulated light, flashing green for non-regulated, yellow for <70% remaining, and red for "replace the batteries". The main headlamp also flashes momentarily to alert you when the system has switched to non-regulated mode.Petzl products are made in France. Though France is not the USA, it is also not China. Every feature on this headlamp is well-designed and well-manufactured, except for the battery cover. This cover is made out of soft molded plastic that fits snugly over the batteries with no screws. It seems to me like an insecure way of doing it, but the head strap does wrap around the back of the battery cover, and does, I suppose, help to hold it in place. The flip-up diffuser is a very useful invention, absolutely vital for up-close work or working around a dark campsite, while still allowing the spot light to be used for long-distance viewing. It is sturdy and does a good job of diffusing the light. One small con is that when it is flipped down (for spot lighting), the little clear plastic tab that allows you to grasp the diffuser with your fingertip refracts the light into your uppermost field of vision. I fixed this problem on my light by painting the tab with some black lacquer. The headband is comfortable enough, with no protruding bumps to dig holes in your skull. The over-the-top band works well, too, and would allow you to comfortably wear a baseball cap over it.Overall, if you want the best headlamp out there for non-caving activities, and you have the money for it, this headlamp is for you. As a man who believes that quality and reliability will always win out over features and economy in the long run, I recommend the Myo RXP.
