I have used the mega warmers many times as we always camp in cold weather. You do have to plan ahead and get them going about 30 to 45 minutes before they keep your hands warm. They do last about 10 hours on average. Keeping a pair in our pockets when it's very cold hiking or at night when the fire dies down works great. The best use is when it's in the 20's or below. We put a couple in our sleeping bags before bed and they do keep us plenty warm through the night. Tip: Put one at the bottom of your bag keeps your feet toasty warm. When you get up and it's cold in the morning, take them out of your bag and put in your pockets to keep warm until the coffee is brewed.

I bought a pack of these for emergencies etc. and leave them in my truck. After flying into Denver the other night, it was 4 degrees in the parking lot not including wind chill. I ended up opening two packs and they both took 45-50 minutes to warm up. When I say warm, that means they weren't hot (for something to warm you it needs to be warmer than your body).
The same thing happened today while snowboarding. I followed the directions and opened the pack but it didn't get hot for almost two hours and I'm not joking. About 5 runs, a trip to the ticket office, a couple more runs and a drive from Eldora to Boulder was the time it took to get hot enough to keep hands warm.
Once they are actually HOT, they last for hours but not 12 hours like the bags say.

Makes all the difference on those frigid days with -20+ windchill, able to stay out on slopes all day. Do need enough space in your gloves or mitts to fit, best for mitts. *** 1 per bag, a bag of 10 = 5 pairs.
