Comments about Pearl Izumi X-Alp Enduro III Mountain Bike Shoes - Men's:

I use this shoe for mountain bike and road biking. I live in the bay area and they're pretty useful for year-round riding. It is well ventilated and fits snuggly. At first, the closures looked flimsy, but I haven't had any issues with it.

The shoe has quite a bit of plastic, but it has worked flawslessly so far. I was not a big fan of their liners and ended up replacing it with a custom made one instead.

Overall, these shoes are worth the money for what is intended for. There are certainly better shoes out there for racing competitively, but will cost more. I do wish they would offer more color option.

This is the first clip-in shoe I have owned so take this review for what its worth being a clip-in rookie. I love how it fits and works with the Shimono SPD peds. Great fit not to loose and not to tight. Love the rachet system on the top buckle.

No issues with these shoes except my feet are too narrow (common issue with most standard width shoes and added an extra insert to help). Wanted a shoe that I can walk in if I ride my mountain bike to town and these work perfectly. I thought they would feel too mushy on my rides but I do not notice it... Also, used a few times in a spin class and they worked just fine for that too. Can easily clip in and out - so glad I got these.

Comments about Pearl Izumi X-Alp Enduro III Mountain Bike Shoes - Men's:

These shoes are great if you're a mountain biker who spends some time hiking during his rides. I ride some of the toughest trails in NorCal and there are times when you must walk or carry your bike a short distance. Or maybe you stash your bike and then complete the trail on foot. Sometimes it isnt a question of skill the trail just peters out and you must walk. Anyway, these are great for short hiking short to medium distances, even over large rocks and boulders (usually a death sentence for clip in biking shoes). These are the best i have found on the market. I've had them for about a year (or about 75 rides) and i would be more likely to buy another pair than switch to anything else ive seen. Highly, highly recommend.

There are very few MTB shoes that are not road shoes with hard plastic Lugs on the bottom. I wanted a MTB shoe that I can walk-on the trail/rocks with that has rubber soles not hard plastic. These fit the bill and they're comfortable.

Comments about Pearl Izumi X-Alp Enduro III Mountain Bike Shoes - Men's:

Ok, bought this shoe because it looks really cool and appeared to have everything I wanted. After a couple of days riding it was apperant to me that the contact with the pedal was weird. It was a little to flexy. Great for walking but if you ride hard, buy something else. The ratcheting device was maxed out and it was only just snug enough. The shoe looks cool but performance wise is lacking. I returned these and picked up Shimano's M162 for the same price. Man, what an awesome shoe!! Overall the PI shoe is okay for recreational riders but if you go hard, like me, don't bother!! It's better for walking than riding. RIDE ON!

Comments about Pearl Izumi X-Alp Enduro III Mountain Bike Shoes - Men's:

I bought these a few months before Christmas and have ridden a couple of hundred miles in them now. I like these much better than a traditional biking shoe. The lug sole give great traction when you get to the hike a bike sections and they are well ventilated.

Sizing wise, the PI sizing chart said as a Size 11 shoe wearer, I would be a 45.5, which proved true. The store had 45's and 46's and the 45's were a bit tight in the toe and the 46's just a bit loose, but snugging down the closures has worked well to get a good fit.

The only real issue I've had and it's a minor one is difficulty clipping in occasionally. I have the Shimano XT Trail pedals and I occasionally have a hard time lining up the cleat with the pedal to get it to clip in. I think that may be due to the deep lug soles, but that's a minor compromise for having the great lug sole when needed.

If I could have given 4.5 stars I would have - it's a great shoe overall.

Comments about Pearl Izumi X-Alp Enduro III Mountain Bike Shoes - Men's:

I use this shoe primarily for general purpose mountain bike riding in Southern California. In this region, they're pretty useful for year-round riding, but most would probably consider them a dry-weather, 3-season shoe. They fit well and are well ventilated. The closures are trouble-free and the fit is consistent with other Pearl Izumi shoes I've worn, as well as other brands using Euro sizing. I'm typically a 45-46 and no difference here.

As with most shoes in this price range, there's a bit more plastic I would like, including on the closures. I've found that for my purposes this is usually fine. I tend to wear out the shoe liner long before any of the external hardware becomes a problem.

There is a little bit of reflective material on the heel. Not a big deal for trail use, but for city riding I'd prefer something with more relective surfaces.

SPD (mountain) and Time ATAC cleats attached with no problems at all. Crank Bros cleats are pretty much the same size and would certainly fit well too. I'm not sure why another reviewer had a problem with them, unless he either failed to remove the mid-sole cover that is installed at the factory, or perhaps he was trying to use SPD-SLs, which would clearly not work on this shoe's sole pattern. (It is specifically a mountain shoe and won't take road cleats of any kind!) I also had no problems with the screws loosening up, though as is true with most bike shoes you do need to torque them appropriately and sometimes tighten them up after the first ride or two. A bit of blue Loctite is never a bad idea either.

All-in-all, I think these are a decent value for the money if they fit you well. There are certainly better shoes out there, especially if you're racing competitively and need a rock-stable energy-transfer platform, but you'll pay quite a bit more for that kind of race-ready performance.

This is my second MTB shoes. Love it. Cannot go wrong with these shoes. You can be on different activities beyond biking like walk to the mall; on the grass; in the mud.
All my friends find it cute.
                    This is a successful story.

Cons: Glad I use the clip, because it loosens a little on long rides.

Comments about Pearl Izumi X-Alp Enduro III Mountain Bike Shoes - Men's:

                      These Shoes are GREAT!!!!

They don't need to be broken in at all and are really comfortable, I wear them on the drive to the trailhead, the ride and the drive back home. The straps are really nice for adjusting the fit to your foot. Great support while riding but also comfortable with good grip for those times you have to hike.

                      Definitely happy with my purchase!
