The Merrell Chameleon 4 Stretch hiking shoes offer slip-on ease, a snug quicklace fit and all-terrain versatility to match your adventurous jaunts.
- Flexible pig suede leather and breathable polyester mesh uppers keep weight low and comfort high; thermoplastic urethane arms enhance stability at heels and insteps
- Fit is secured quickly with the adjustable elastic cord lacings with friction cordlocks; heel loops aid entry
- Lycra® spandex/neoprene 4-way stretch collars seal around ankles to keep debris out
- Polyester mesh linings wick away excess moisture and dry quickly for comfort; antimicrobial treatment helps deter odors
- Partially recycled, removable footbeds add cushioning to compression-molded EVA midsoles, which feature Air Cushion heel pockets

I use these for my slip-ons for short hikes that don't involve a lot of uphill/downhill. They work great, but I have a hard time finding the right amount of tension on the bungee-style laces (I might just throw in some regular laces). I end up just wearing them a little loose or I find that the circulation has to be cut off to feel "tight." Merrell really stands behind their product which is awesome. I had the chameleon 3s and the toes started peeling, I sent them in to Merrell and they replaced them with the same size of the 4s.

I do home construction in these shoes. They're very comfortable, although they are sized for a wide foot both in the front and the heel. The front toe discolors quickly, the outer material does not mix well with wet conditions, and the stitching has come undone quickly in places where it doesn't affect the actual shoe but just looks bad unless you cut the loose threads. I abuse these shoes very hard everyday, and they are built solidly. They are not posted to provide stability, but I do not need that. I bought them to be a rugged shoe that is very comfortable, easy to slip on and off, and easy to accomplish athletic movements if needed during the course of my work day. They do everything I want and I will definitely buy another pair.

I bought this pair of shoes because I wanted something lightweight and relatively breathable while still having a sole with decent traction. The slip on feature is really nice and they are very comfortable. I have no problem using them as a pair of camp shoes instead of lugging along an extra pair of sandals. I've got between 200-250 miles on my pair so far and they seem to hold up pretty well. I will probably purchase a new pair for my thru-hike of the JMT this summer.

I use these as everyday casual shoes. I am very impressed with the fit and finish. Of course, the comfort is a huge plus. The soles grip like no other shoe I've owned.
Highly recommended for those that want something simple that doesn't require ankle support.
The slip on and tension fastener is great and looks like it will last the life of the shoe.

Only a month in but many miles down. Time will tell on how it holds up. No concerns so far. I love how the snug fit keeps the dirt debris out. Even a quick run throw the snow i didn't have to dig the little snow chunks out. These shoes paired with the Darn Tough socks are a Winner!

I purchased version 3 in the summer of 2011 for an adventure race in Colorado. The shoe held up as expected providing exceptional traction on the steep rock walls and mountain bike grips. They dried out really well after the rafting. My only complaint is that the sole of the shoe is detaching from the toe on both shoes. I exchanged my first pair at REI with another, and now my second pair is doing the same thing. It looks like version 4 is getting updated, so I plan on heading back to REI to see about another exchange.

These shoes are very comfortable, fit well and I thought they were waterproof but find that they are marginally waterproof.
Use them as hiking shoes but also as my golf shoes. Excellent traction but when playing golf in the early mornings, the dew on the grass results in my feet getting wet! That is a problem!

I bought these primarily for walking my dog. They became a nearly every day shoe. They really aren't durable enough for every day use so they've worn out prematurely. But they've been great. I did replace the stock insoles with Dr Scholes "custom" inserts due to my own flat feet. Even in their somewhat beat up condition, they're still great. The sole is on their strong as can be, only the inside has begun to tear up a bit and there's some wear on the outside. These were my second pair of Merrell shows, the first pair being tie up, and my only real complaint is longevity, but it may just mean I need to let them breathe more.
