Are you trying to make some new friends? Look no further than the dependable Wild Country Helium Friend cams. They'll catch you when you fall and be there for you when you need them most.

    • From the maker of the first-ever camming device comes the next generation of Friend cams—they're redesigned to be lighter, more solid and more versatile than ever
    • Hot-forged cam lobes are hollowed out in places to reduce weight without sacrificing strength; redesigned Friends are now up to 6% lighter than the previous version
    • New design offers 20% more range than the previous version; larger range means there's a greater chance each unit will fit the placement you need
    • New trigger design and thumb loop combine to offer smooth action and simple operation for quick placements while you're climbing difficult routes
    • Stem length has been increased to make the cams easier to place in and remove from deep cracks
    • New Friends carry forward several tried-and-true features of previous versions, including the constant 13.75° cam angle and the single stem and single axle construction
    • Compact and lightweight 12mm Dyneema® sewn slings are used on all sizes
    • Color-coded slings and cam lobes make the Wild Country Helium Friend cams easy to identify on your rack

Comments about Wild Country Helium Friend Cams:

I am a big fan of these pieces. I got the #3.5 and 4 to supplement my rack of BD c4 (they match the #3 and 4 for size and color) PLUS they are quite a bit lighter

Comments about Wild Country Helium Friend Cams:

These are lighter than C4's. To protect 14-102mm cracks with these, you'll come in with 9 cams at 40 oz. To protect 17-122mm with BDC4s, you'll come in with 8 cams at 50 oz. An extra cam and shaving off 10 ounces is a nice argument to get a full set of these. I currently only the 3.5.

This is probably as close as you're going to get with a new SLCD to the old sizing system of BD's 3.5 cam (see below).

The stems are slightly longer (see photo) which means slightly longer reach into cracks.

Regarding "Sketchy's" review re: the tight slings: the slings are indeed sewed slightly tigher to the thumb loop than C4s/Metolius/etc. However, mine broke in after some use; the sling is now soft and slides around the thumb loop with plenty of ease. Isn't it a poor work person who blames their tools for walking? You'll get them reslung in a couple of years, anyways.

As a final thing to consider, they fit 'between' C4 sizes well enough that these make a good way to augment a rack of C4s.

            Approximate size stuff:
            WC3.5 min/max: 51-82mm [~66-79 useable for 50-90% expansion); 171g
            old BD#3.5 useable:66-86mm (clydesoles.com's chart); 312g
            new BDC4 #3 useable 53-71mm (clydesoles.com's chart); 201g

Comments about Wild Country Helium Friend Cams:

The sling at the thumb loop is sewn to tightly. This causes the cam to walk. I can honestly say I like the older Wild Country Technical Friend design better. BD attaches their sling in the same manner, but the sling is not sewn as tightly. This gives the sling more freedom of movement. The stem, on the new Wild Country cams, are really stiff, this also contributes to walking.

I've climbed on DMM and Wild Country cams exclusively for years. I guess I'm done with Wild Country. DMM Dragons all the way.
