- Lightweight nylon fabric dries quickly and resists pilling, and is easy to pack away in a backpack
- With a UPF 50+ rating, fabric provides excellent protection against harmful ultraviolet rays
- Fabric is treated with a Durable Water Repellent finish to repel moisture and stains
- Pleated cargo pockets with rip-and-stick flap closures offer ample space for trail and travel items; a zippered pocket on the left side secures essentials

I love these shorts, they are a great buy. Ill be ordering more pairs when I get back from my next trip. The materials are great, and I washed them and then left them out to dry and were dry within a few hours. No shrinkage.
Also the sizing is funny, SO listen carefully. If you are a 32-33-34 waist I would recommmend a "Large" These include a small belt that helps, but I dont need to use it, I just have it to keep them tight.
The shorts have a elastic/banded waist so they fit great on my 33-34 inch waist. If you are pretty skinny, IE 30-31-32 waist I would get a medium. The shorts are just past me knee were I like them, Not above the knee at all.

I bought these for my husband. I bought according to the sizing chart which seemed consistent with his "normal" size from other brands. However, when he received them they are clearly at least one whole size too small. Frustrating to have to add the expense and time of returning to exchange the size. I'm hoping once we get an accurate size he will be happy with the fit so that we can buy more!

This is the second pair of REI Sahara shorts I've owned, and the first ones served me well for over 5 years. The new shorts are similar in construction to the old ones, but have a different type of belt. Unfortunately, I don't like the new belt as much. The belt is loose in the belt loops and falls out often when unlocked. Also the belt lock is not as easy to use as in the old short. All that said, these shorts are still great...

used these on a month long trip - as per my earlier review , consider trying them on for size ( although another reviewer was fine with a large size I found the XL more comfortable & we are the same waist ) .
I used them walking the Swiss Alps & bumming around London & they worked really well in both locations & I was very happy with them.

These shorts are great. I finally had to replace the ones I bought over 10 years ago because they were a little short for current fashion. The old ones (two pairs) have been through alot and still look great. The new ones seem even better. I was so happy that REI keeps making these. Can't make any judgements as not worn them yet. Just writing to state that I am a 34" waist & I find the large just a little snug. They may be okay for those the same size but maybe slimmer in the leg. My advice wld be to try before you buy if possible.

Hands down the most comfortable pair of shorts I own. I wear them non stop in the summer. I need to buy more! I am personally a 32" waist and figured a medium would work well for me. While they did "fit", they weren't nearly as comfortable as the Large. The large fits around my waist just fine but gives me a lot more room in the crotch area which makes these shorts very breathable and comfortable for the hot summer months. They're not overly baggy either, just a perfect fit!

Yes, they are almost perfect. Gusseted, lots of pockets, no friggin' liner to cut out, zippered, really stretchy waist, etc. I found them slightly too long but I can't really dock them for that since I have short legs. But one thing about them drives me crazy and that is the front pockets are sewn in place instead of "floating." This means that every time your knees are above your waist, your keys, phone, change, and anything else in your front pockets falls out. And this happens in mundane situations, too, like sitting in a recliner, not just climbing stuff. Even though i have two pairs of these, I am still looking to find the ideal cargo shorts - everything these have but an inch or two shorter and floating pockets.
