Comments about REI Stoke 19 Pack:
This replaced my Gregory ultralight pack, which was awesome but ripped in a thousand places. This seems much more durable to me, what with its rip-stop fabric. I have three small complaints: first, there are too many straps and they're insanely long; second, the small pocket on the back has a very narrow opening; third, the side pockets are too shallow and let water bottles fly out willy-nilly. Otherwise, this is a terrific daypack, with plenty of room, highly adjustable straps, handy zippered waist pockets, and a seriously light weight.

Comments about REI Stoke 19 Pack:
i brought this pack because I wanted something, to keep in the car for the spontaneous, lets that a hike/walk times. I usually carry a fanny pack for that and have water bottles for the dogs. This pack seemed prefect, light and small for that short hike. BUT the plastic grips in front for the strap across the front would not hold. I became very uncomfortable and I returned it.

Comments about REI Stoke 19 Pack:
In my two years with the Stoke 19, I have used it on a near-daily basis, and battered it with all manner of injuries: sweat and its corrosive salt; the stink of unwashed wool; and hemorrhaging strawberries. It has withstood and served, and continues to endure, under all stresses, remains comfortable, and retains the quality with which it was originally imbued. The fit might be loose on thin folks, requiring the chest and waist straps drawn fully tight, and the back, while comfortably padded, bars air circulation.
An excellent and affordable asset to run commuting or fastpacking. We recently reviewed this at TheRunCommuter.com.

Comments about REI Stoke 19 Pack:
After I used this pack the first few times I wrote a review and gave it 5 stars. I haven't changed my mind about how comfortable it is - it's really great. It almost feels like I don't have anything on my back. BUT I just returned it to REI because the seams are weak around the outside stretch pocket. I haven't decided whether I want to get another Stoke and hope it's made better or to give up on it.

Comments about REI Stoke 19 Pack:
Searched the REI website for daypacks smaller than 20L. Since we live in So. Calif. we figured it would be the perfect capacity for the baby's diaper changing and back-up clothing needs.
We use the zippered hydration pocket to house the diaper changing pad. Main pocket is for baby wipes, couple set of extra clothes, and diapers. Smaller organizer pocket is for sunblock, diaper creme, snacks for the adults. I stuff plastic trash bags into the waist-belt pocket (to collect trash and wet items).
Small size makes it easy to carry and leave hands free to grab the stroller and car seat. I strap on the bag first, and because it is a relatively trim and narrow pack, it is not unwieldy as I am bending and turning to grab baby and the stroller. Nice to have the adjustment straps to cinch down the load to help reduce its profile when maneuvering through a parking lot. The outer mesh pocket is great for stuffing in an extra blanket or easy-to-reach burp cloths.
And then Baby Girl can use it for hiking when she grows up!

Comments about REI Stoke 19 Pack:
Just spent two weeks with the Stoke 19 Pack on an international trip. I bought it because it was lightweight and compact yet surprisingly roomy. It surpassed my expectations except for two areas:
-the side pockets are not deep enough to sufficiently carry water bottles. Every time I laid the pack horizonatal, the waterbottle slid out.
-I continuously pulled chest strap off the top of the tracks (I wore it on the top notch and it easily slid up when I pulled the strap to buckle it)
I did not use the bladder pocket for water so I can't comment on that, however, I did use the pocket to store my passport and wallet for added security since it's zippered.

Comments about REI Stoke 19 Pack:
I got this pack for commuting to work by bike, day hikes, and weekend travels by train/bus. It fits 3 days of clothes easily in the main area, a book in the front mesh part, trail mix/iphone/accessories in the smaller compartment, and keys/water bottle in side mesh compartments. With all of this in my pack, it still feels very comfortable and light on my shoulders. Easy to run with.
Cons: the back panel "padding" is pretty uncomfortable; kinda like a cardboard egg carton that doesn't mold to the contours of your back very well. It also isn't very breathable. The side mesh areas are slanted so they won't hold a water bottle at all unless yours has a loop that can be tied to the pack like mine, but access to it is not very easy.
I have not used the compartment for a water bag so can't offer any critiques on that.

Comments about REI Stoke 19 Pack:
I really wanted to like this pack. It is just the right volume for a pretty long day hike and at first glance it seemed just perfect. Alas, it just isn't quite right for me. First, the size is odd. I'm 6 feet tall and the hip straps just sat too high on me when I had the shoulders adjusted comfortably. The end result was that the hip straps just weren't useful. Plus, I'm not really sure the hip straps do much even if they did fit. I like having a pocket there, but with such a small pack I don't think they really do anything to help stabilize. Overall, I think this is also a bit overbuilt. There's all these zippers and straps, but when I'm out on a hike it feels needless complicated.

Comments about REI Stoke 19 Pack:
I got this pack to replace my beloved Osprey Atmos 25 for summer dayhikes. I have used the Stoker 4 times now and am ready to give it at least 5 stars. It is surprisingly comfortable for a pack that has no frame. It doesn't have great capacity but it isn't supposed to. It does hold everything I need for an all-day hike (and it keeps me from packing a lot of stuff I don't need). Note that the side pockets are not deep enough to hold a liter bottle securely and there are no cinch straps near the bottom. Those are trades I gladly make for the light weight. The pack I received had ridiculously long waist straps but I had them cut and sealed at the REI store.
